Ours is being built now and we should see it mid-Dec! How is the diesel noise, we test drove a 2009 and it was significant, but the 2011 was much quieter.
thanks again!
Nappa. There is an adjustment curve with the diesel. The sound is most noticeable when accelerating from a stop. I happen to like it. Idling will not wake up the neighbors. At highway speeds you can feel the throbbing, but the noise level decreases as you speed increases. Kind of a strange sensation when your doing 90 and the engine is not screaming. Torque never quits. We're having a lot of fun driving this thing...and towing is fairly stress free. All in all the right vehicle for what we use it for. For us the fuel thing is easy, our local filling station sells auto diesel. Finding fuel did get interesting down in South Carolina though...I had to use the fuel nozzle adapter that comes with the truck. Some states still allow diesel sales out of the same size nozzles as gasoline (won't fit in the X5d), and the high pressure diesel nozzles for trucks are too large.
interesting comment on the nozzles. Since ordering, I have been looking around at my local stations, mostly Shell and Mobil. Most of the ones I use are newly built and have separate 'green' colored handles on the same pump, but it clearly says diesel. Now, one of my favorite stations has the diesel on the side where the big trucks can refuel...so i shouldn't use the 'truck stop' diesel pumps??? And what 'octane' should I be using? thanks!
My bad...I meant the same SIZE nozzles. Definitely separate hoses from separate tanks!
ULSD (ultra low sulphur diesel) is the right juice. My local Shell station has it. No hassle...only have to fill up twice a month!
Correction....I have standard leather..not nappa. I actually like the rubbery stuff on the dash:thumbup:
