A study on ratio of city/highway driving vs MPG

Result shown in Figure attached. By eyeballing, I find a 2 MPG increase for a 10 MPH increase. Extrapolating this trend to a purely highway scenario of 70MPH, and the formula gives 30 MPG. Pretty accurate guess.

Notes:
1. Ratio of city/highway driving is represented by average speed reported by OBC. This is of course highly simplified. Every point in the figure represents at least a whole tank worth of driving.
2. This study spans more than half a year, so factors other than ratio of city/highway driving also have their influences, e.g. summer/winter gas difference.
3. This study is not an encouragement of driving faster. Since the trend will definitely break down when faster than 70~75.

Enjoy your weekend!
