BMW Holds Luxury Crown Midway through 2014

The race to the top for sales in the luxury segment has been getting tighter and tighter every year. At the midway point in 2014, BMW has managed to grab the lead in both worldwide sales of the brand and in the United States. Audi had managed to sneak ahead of BMW at the start of the year but sales at the Bavarian powerhouse have continued to improve and have beaten that of Audi worldwide the last two months.

Worldwide Sales - YTD through June 2014
BMW - 886,347
Audi - 869,350
Mercedes-Benz - 783,520
Lexus - Not Reported

US Sales - YTD through June 2014
BMW - 157,382
Mercedes-Benz - 151,624
Lexus - 138,689
Audi - 84,349

The most amazing statistic out of the bunch is that Audi sales fall flat in the United States compared to their worldwide numbers. While Audi continues to produce and sell many cars in the United States, they are not gaining any ground to their competitors - they are merely not falling behind.

The second half of the year is here and BMW has set the benchmark for others to compete. Who will come out on top at the end of 2014 is anyone's guess but things are looking up for the BMW Group right now.
