Sounds like sticky lifters to me. Run a quart of diesel fuel in your crankcase but DO NOT DRIVE IT, just let it idle for about 15 minutes then immediately change your oil. Worked for me. If you drive it with the diesel fuel in the crankcase you'll surely spin a bearing. So once again, just let it idle. If it's still present I'd check into rebuilding your VANOS unit as the steel washer becomes worn and loose creating a sound similar to what we are hearing. Good luck!

Hey Jamafia. Congrats on getting her running again.

I'm almost 100% positive that is your vanos unit knocking. How long has the car been down? Have you checked the oil level? I had the same noise on my E36 after it had been down for several months. After running it gently for about 30 minutes, the noise went away.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like your engine is starved of oil (top) there a lot of lifter noise there...have your oil pump check including what others have listed as possible issues. Oil pump will run you somewher in the neighborhood of $325 - $375. I would also run some "SeaFoam" through the crank-case...

Thank again friends another problem solved. You know what, the car need oil.
The last oil change at shell service station, i don't think they knew what they were doing or how much oil goes into engine. I will be taking it from now on to bmw specialist.

Thanks for all your opinions / thoughts.
