Starting this thread as the customary place for all fellow OCD 'festers to track the voyage of the Ryujin from Bremerhaven.
I dropped off my car in Geneva on July 13th. Today the E.H. Harms tracking system began reporting that my car is on the Ryujin departing Bremerhaven 8/5/09, arriving Port Heuneme 8/30/09.
Well base on the experience of the guys on the Aphrodite Leader. Car got unloaded on Aug 17 and didn't clear customs till Aug 27. Then we have to wait another 24-48 for the trucking company.
After an agonizing crawl at just 6kn for the final 10 hours or so the Ryujin is now docked and presumably unloading cargo. Now the untrackable and even more agonizing wait begins.
I will also have to wait for some small scuffs on the front bumper to be repaired and my windows to be tinted for protection from the Arizona furnace.
Attached is the amended whole voyage KMZ file including yesterdays maneuvers for those who want it. As always, remove the *.pdf extension before importing to Google Earth.
Ryujin still docked at Port Heuneme. It has a heading of 270 degrees, which means it's set to leave when the time comes, just will need a little push off from the pier.
Ryujin is underway again to San Diego after unloading our cars at Port Hueneme. Proof positive that each and every one of our cars is now on US soil and accessible by contiguous dry land.
For me it make it all the more frustrating since I now know that my car is accessible and just a few hours away from where I am typing this. All that is between me and my car is bureaucracy and logistics.

Thanks for the update Frank. I'm about 1500 miles away, but I share your frustration! It's a waiting game at this point. I was told by the dealer that it would take a day or two through the VDC, so we'll see. I definitely now understand that if the car is there for more than two days, that's not a good thing.and probably a sign of significant damage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a quick two day turn around!
Hey, you should all be grateful that the Ryujin left B'Haven on August 5 and not a few days later. If it had sailed three days later, your cars would be delayed even further awaiting body work!
(Ryujin sailed a couple days ahead of Hurricane Bill on the Atlantic coast and Hurricane Jimena on the Baja coast.)
Not yet, but nor am I expecting either E.H. Harms' or BMWUSA's website to show any change for at least a week. I have learned from my own earlier experiences and from this forum that both are notoriously out of date.
Since I have some scuffing to my front bumper which needs fixing I expect another week in the process for me and do not realistically expect to see my car in AZ until the late 3rd or 4th week of September. I'm not going to start advertising my present car for private sale until the middle of September.
At least I can tell myself I'll get my car 'this month' now. I don't allow myself to imagine big processing delays. That way lies a steep spiral into the asylum, and my wife is already fearing that given my erratic/compulsive behavior since Geneva.
I'm having enough problems speculating about the arrival of my front Zoll plate given the possibility of a non-dealership controlled bumper repair. On the one hand I want the VPC/VDC to fix the car because they are likely experts at such things and I'll next see the car after it is restored to perfection. On the other hand, the chances of my seeing the front Zoll plate are I imagine much reduced if the VPC/VDC repair the bumper. I didn't use to care much for the Zoll plate, but now I have a spot on the garage wall which seems perfect for it.
all, my car is listed as "at the prep center" on the bmw site -- assume this means that it cleared customs...also assume that your cars have cleared as well...cheers

Ohh! Oooh! Oooh!..... Darn it! No, mine is still 'En Route'. This is very interesting though since it would indicate that the status is updated per-car rather than per-shipload. The tracking may be of dubious timeliness but at least now we know it has good fidelity.
Now I am in paroxysms of anxiety that my car has been held back for special customs attention.
Meanwhile, my present car suffered a cracked windshield this morning. 11.5 years of blemish free driving and then this happens about 2-3 weeks before I sell it. It's enough to make one reconsider one's religion....
I called the 1-800-831-1117 number to see if the automated system had anything new to add. Before, the phone automated system told me that the vehicle was in enroute to the preparation center. When I called today (actually 5 minutes ago), the phone system said that my car was at the dock waiting for a shipping vessel!
Phone number now reports that "vehicle is in transit". This is a change from the previous condition. Before, my car was awaiting a vessel. Now it's "in transit". Lets hope that really means that it is in transit from Port Heuneme to the dealer and not simply a error by the phone system.
Website still reports that the vehicle is at the preparation center.
I was getting worried that my car was still showing as 'en route' even though other posters here were further along days ago. A few minutes ago I emailed my CA to ask where my car was, and he replied to tell me that it is at the VDC with no schedule for release to trucking.
I then rechecked the bmwusa website and it now shows my car at the VDC. A change in status within the last 30 minutes. I wonder whether my CA making a query through his system caused a synchronization and update to the bmwusa tracking tool.
Anyway, I am now happy, and choosing to interpret the 'with no schedule' part of my reported status as an indication that my bumper scuff is being dealt with at the VDC.
MY car is now at the dealer and I'm getting really impatient! It got there this afternoon and it's still not ready for me. I called them today and they said it arrived this afternoon. Why didn't they call me asap (seriously impatient customer rants)??? Anyway, I'm going down there tomorrow. I've been waiting for months and I'm sick of waiting.

Totally with you. If my car were already at the dealer at the start of the holiday weekend I'd be one of those nuts camping out in a bivouac just to be first in line the next morning.
I hope you don't get the 'I'm sorry - we can't work on it until Tuesday and you can't take it home until we've worked on it. Enjoy your weekend' speech. Whatever happens after that is entirely justifiable. In the movies there would be a fade to black but the soundtrack would continue with screams, crunching bones, and the sound of squealing tires.
I didn't want to get the Nav system but ordered it anyway. Don't know if I regret it or not. We had some negotiations over the price of the car. The dealership tried to raise the price by $ 500 over the price we agreed to and I tried to do the same to them. We ended up back at the same price that we agreed to originally: 45655.
Car looks sweet. Got a Tasman green 335d sedan with nav, premo, cold weather, ipod and stereo upgrade . It's quite a car. My old car was an 06 Honda Accord that I'm now selling. It's going to take me awhile to get used to this car.
Green is such a strange color for a car. It really is a color that often doesn't work well on a car. But when it does look good, it looks great. I'd give the slight edge to the dark blue metallic that my wife wanted, but this is one hot looking car. Peeps are noticing thats for sure.
I'm looking forward to hearing when you guys get your car. Still haven't totally decided on whether to buy or lease. They are giving me until Tuesday. The irony is that if I lease the whole debate about the price of the car becomes moot.

bmwusa finally indicates that my car is at the preparation center. I dropped off the car in Munich on July 18th. Question: Will I
get the car within 2 months?? I wait with anticipation!
I have enjoyed watching all of the updates and appreciate the detailed information as my vehicle was on the same ship. However, I must say that having this much information has made the wait that much more painful as it has made me think about it everyday and check for updates. I am still waiting for my car in Northern California and expect to see it any day. Online it states At Preparation Center and it would be great to make it before the weekend. We will keep our fingers crossed.
I surprised myself over the weekend by going a whole day without even thinking about it, but I am making up time for that this morning. For some unfathomable reason I am on edge and pouncing on my phone whenever it rings. My subconscious has decided, in the absence of any information, that today is THE DAY. Perhaps because I know that my wife will not be able to ferry me to collect my car either today or tomorrow and getting THE CALL today would maximize my discomfort.
I ordered my car way back on Feb 18th so that I could be certain to get the pick-up date & time I needed to fit with the rest of my sabbatical plans. In one way or another I have been waiting nearly 7 months. This last week or two has been the worst.
I am looking forward to other 'festers posting their redelivery pictures. I really am. You should all know though that as you click the 'Submit Reply' button the distant 'popping' sound you hear is one of my ulcers letting go.
While my car didn't show up on the 9th as my CA estimated, parts of the car continue to arrive. Today, I received the iPhone 3G adaptor that I ordered from England (for some reason, it was $40 cheaper than what I was able to find locally - go figure). Anyway, all I need now is a car to attach to the iPhone adaptor. In the meantime, I still have a 330i to drive around!
