It would be interesting to hear who found new and interesting features about their new BMW after it was delivered that they did not expect or know about when ordering it. I'll start off by noting I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the side pockets on my new E93 Convertible's front doors tilted out to allow easy access for placing and removing items from them.

Wow that's interesting, 1st time that I heard of that one that's a great feature. I wonder if it's like that on 06 e90s. I gotta go check it out later.
I like the little cruise control "indicator" that pops up over your speedometer when set. It's kinda cool! Also, I didn't know there was an Auxilarary Volume Control Button for your Ipod until about 1 month after I bought the car. Also, another cool feature.

I like that too! Great for those of us who's car is a "mobile office!" I've got tissues, some glass wipes, my sunglasses, and all sorts of crap in the driver side pocket. But it's hidden when closed.
I love the lights in the door handles that help you see the ground at night. I also love the ambient lighting in the door panels. Way too cool! Overall, I'm totally impressed with the high quality fit and finish. This is a car! I would buy this car again tomorrow morning.
The ability of the nav to tell you your elevation is pretty cool. Because it's always useful to know how high you are.
Mostly, though, the pleasant surprises haven't concerned features I didn't know were present, but rather how well those features functioned. Case in point: HD radio. I knew my car was so equipped, but having had essentially no prior experience with HD radio, I was surprised at the number of FM/HD stations which broadcast on two or three separate streams.
I knew that Sirius (and HD) could be controlled via the iDrive, but hadn't realized how handy it would be -- rapid access to all stations, not just the presets. Also, the display info for Sirius is much improved with iDrive, though I can't say I was surprised.
And one more thing: the legibility of the electronic instrumentation under all lighting conditions -- even part direct sunlight and part shadow -- was a pleasant surprise.
Not to be rude, but that's a feature that you paid for in the ZPP, so you should have known about it. It should not be a surprise, which I believe the OP means in this original thread.
I've never had Nav before, so when I learned I could use it to find a gas station I was releaved. We had about 30 miles left in the tank, on Bastile Day in the middle of nowhere in France. The first station nav took us to was not only right where it was supposted to be, but open and took Master Card.
I knew of the tilt down mirror/reverse feature but didn't think I would have it because I didn't get Premium. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I do have it. Not to be rude.
I would never have known about the cruise control whatever thing as I never use cruise.
Auxillary volume allows you to boost or reduce the volume preset on your i-pod etc.
That way when you switch from 1 source to another you aren't slammed with a big blast
of loudness.
I figured adaptive headlights would be good but I didn't realize how much I would like them.
Isn't Auxillary Volume the feature that raises/lowers the volume of your music (cd/radio/MP3) depending on the speed that you are driving? When you slow down, the volume gets lower, when you go faster, it gets higher.
I like the fact that my rubbery winter mats are the same beige color as the rest of my interior.
I like the fact that the in-door fold down compartments are lined with felt so that my Ray-Ban® sunglasses can go in there without their bulky plastic case.
I like the fact that the rear storage compartment is big enough to fit the two pairs of my kids sunglasses.
I like the fact that you can get a simple BMW accessory to turn your flashlight socket into another power outlet.

I like the graphic when you back up on the nav screen. The fact that a plug and play would give me 10% more hp and torque. How quiet the roof is. How much better the ride is with NON-run flat 19" rims and tires. How fast the heated seats warm up. Active steering (i go out of my way to make u-turns). GO DODGERS

This is the first NAV system that has an "I Agree" indicator that goes away on its own. On our last 2 cars (non-BMW), you had to press OK to clear the screen. I've always wished for a "Yes To All" option...
The only thing I don't like about this feature is that it eats through washer fluid like none other. I rarely use my windshield washers in the summer, but the winter I probably go through a gallon ever other week it seems (given that it's snowing regularly).
speaking of magnets....your 2 front quarter panels are made of plastic. Cool feature because you'll never get a ding in that area like the ding i just found on my door this week!
I just found these three things out with the cruise control on a recent trip.
1) if you push all the way in or all the way out on the cruise control stick the speed jumps or drops 5 mph accordingly. Do it several times and the car is up or down to your desired speed.
2) when going down a hill with the cruise on say 40mph the car stays at 40mph. No braking, no down shifting needed.
3) when I pull and hold on the cruise shifter it actually seems to activate the brakes on the car slowing it more rapidly than if you just let up on the accelerator.
I've never had these features on any other standard cruise control that I know of.
No need to use the brake or accelerator anymore if you stay over 20mph.
I can only imagine how nice active cruise control would be.

Now, this one may not be a big deal to 07 and up people (I am not sure), but the 06 NAV did not have a search by name feature, so to find a Starbucks you would have to scroll through a whole list of restaurants ordered by distance not alphabet. SO, I was very plesantly surprised when yesterday, after a new software update this feature was addd to the navigation's information section. Now only if, they start offering Google Loca, like they have in Germany.
This might not sound like much, but I like that I can FINALLY enter addresses and play with the Nav while driving. My Lexus didn't, my 4Runner won't - and I hate that I can't look up something while I'm driving.
I have had my car for 2 months, and i just realized the other day that the width of the backrest can be adjusted. I found the button while vaccuming under the seat.
I still don't get it. I have the convertible and am confused by your post. What do you mean the backrest can be adjusted? Are you talking about the headrest? Or, the seat back? And where is the button for that? :dunno:
Not really exclusive to this car, but I was surprised how well the Navigation helps driving on unknown twisty roads. I turned it on max zoom during ED and could judge corner speed almost as well as knowing the road. Much more accurate than my prior car's nav screen.
