Four days ago I was given a rental car by the company to drive around Italy while there for business. The company is in Italian North-East and the car is Fiat Punto Evo with 1.3 liter diesel engine unleashing tremendous 75 thundering horses. For three days I was driving it around just as I would a daily driver in US. Today, I took it to a 220 miles road trip - 160 miles on Autostrada and remaining 60 miles through extremely narrow two lanes road with longest straight of 0.5 miles (roughly). I was grinning like an idiot, I was ecstatic and I was enjoying every millisecond of it.
So, let me resume ... Fiat 1.3 liter DIESEL with 75 hp vs BMW 3.0 liter twin scroll turbo with 300 hp, and the first one wins? Before you kick me out of this community, the problem is with WHERE you drive so much more than WHAT you drive. It is sad that driving something (that would rightfully be described as a dog otherwise) in a RIGHT country gives so much more driving joy and satisfaction than driving a jewel in a wrong country.
Fiat Punto Evo with that engine would be one of the last choices if I were buying a new car in Europe - coarse engine, no power at all until 2,000 rpm, shifter that is more shifty than used car salesman and you can forget shifting in less than 2 seconds plus heel and toe is impossible with pedals layout. Yes, that's how bad driving in US is.
So, BMW, pretty please, can we quit with "Joy" BS at least while advertising for American customer? Or with an asterisk that says, in font 2 and at the bottom of the page "Your results may vary if you drive in US". Thank you.
