my buddy is having troubles with his 86' 325es, when he first starts it up in the morning, (cold start) the idle jumps from 500 to 1000, and then after about 10 seconds it levels out to 800. any ideas on what this could be?
I know his car is chipped, and has a cone air filter.
thanks!!
IAC valve. Check the two wire connected to it and make sure there is a good connection. What happens is the signal wire comes loose or there is an open in the circuit that develops over time from the heat. Try taking the valve apart too and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol.
You can also check the voltage at the cold start valve and thermo time sensor. The fluctuation during the 10 -15 sec of startup points to the cold start system.
Additionally, minor idle quality adjustments can be made using the screw on the eta idle control valve.
