2017 BMW i3 REX Recall

I just contacted my dealer to try and get a new 2017 i3 REX and he said there is a stop-sale on all i3 REX models only. He said there was a recall and they cannot sell them right now.

Has anyone heard of this?

Yes, there is a delivery stop/recall being worked up on a good chunk of the REx models since start of production. It is for an evaporative fuel line that chafes against another cable in the rear of the vehicle, causing the check engine light to come on for an evaporative system leak. Parts are not yet released and no ETA has been given.

DELIVERY STOP/RECALL 17V-XXX: FUEL TANK VENT LINE

MODEL
I01 (i3 REx)

situation
BMW AG is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall on Model Year 2014 to Model Year 2017 BMW i3 REx Vehicles produced from Start-of-Production through December 2016. This recall involves the fuel tank vent line.

Any i3 REx in your inventory within the above production dates is affected by this recall and must not be sold prior to performing the recall.

Approximately 19,100 vehicles are affected. At the present time, the VINs have not been loaded into the Warranty Inquiry in DCS. This safety recall involves a section of the fuel tank vent line which is adjacent to the protecting sleeve of the positive battery cable. Over time, due to relative movement of the line and the sleeve, this could lead the fuel tank vent line to wear through (chafe).

This bulletin will be updated with repair instructions, parts and warranty information as soon as they become available.
