Ever miss your car?

Dropped my car off at the shop yesterday for some repairs on some scratches, getting an M Sport front bumper and a coilover kit. Anyone ever miss their car or find themselves wondering how it's doing while you're apart?

I miss some key features like the HUD and satellite radio since my loaner doesn't have them. But I'll get by somehow...

I meant more like miss it like you miss your family when you're out of town or something like that rather than miss the features.

Mine is parked right out the front door at work. I catch myself looking out the windows at it every time I walk by.
I have a desktop picture of various shots of the interior, underhood etc. Keeps me company.

Pretty much every time I travel and have to get a rental car. Every time I drive a rental (and I have had some decent ones like Chevy camaro's, Mustangs, as well as your regular run of the mill ford fusion and nissan altima), I realize just how good my "crappy" bmw steering that everyone complains about is.

I feel genuinely unsafe in most of those rentals. The engine makes too much noise when its not going anywhere (HUUUWHEEEEEEEEEEEEE going from like 55-65 ), the steering is loose, etc. I did not realize how bad those were until I started driving BMWs 7 years ago, and I have only owned a E60 5 series, and 335 / 435, 535, X5... so almost all F series with the "bad steering and no road feel" (according to others)

The 335 had sport suspension, and I really liked it. The 435 has almost every box checked, and I LOVE it... and when I have to drive another car (even a BMW rental if my car is at the shop), I really, really miss it (but not like I miss family, lol).

I definitely missed it when I was on vacation and driving a Toyota 4Runner SR5 rental around.

When I drive my E92 Sport a lot I miss my 2000 Golf Tdi with a Malone Stage 3 tune. When I drive the Golf a lot I miss the 335.

Good god, no. It is a car already. And a staid, conservative sedan at that.

Yes, oddly enough I do miss my car when I'm away or when it's in the shop.

Not as much as my wife and kids, but it's probably tied with my guitars.

I drive rentals a lot, when I'm traveling. During my GTI days, I catch myself looking for the clutch with my left foot or my right hand reaches for the gear lever occasionally.

Nowadays, ever so often, I just gently place my finger on the radio presets to see the station, always pull every door lever twice while getting out and tug on the door not realizing that I have to push a damn button to unlock the door, even with keyless entry.

Do I miss driving MY car? Absolutely. Every drive back from the airport parking lot to home is always fun.

n.
I heard of a woman who drove a stick. When in a rental car, she accidentally grabbed the business colleague's knee thinking it was a non-existent shifter.

I was once in a rental car and almost got whiplash because I stepped on the brake instead of the non-existent clutch!

If you are passionate about your BMW in any regard, it may be missed when it's not around. I am certainly eager to back in the drivers seat in mine after a brief separation.

I travel quite a bit and miss driving it when the rental place doesn't have a good selection in which to choose from.

yes, when i drop it off and pick up some BS loaner, which drives much worse. When i go on vacation and get a BS rental. Lets face, most rentals don't come close to our cars, unless you're willing to spend two arms and a leg.

I agree with general idea, but this (in bold) is a very common fallacy that gets propagated on Internet. For example, one of my cars cannot be replaced. Not as far as I am concerned. I would not buy a used one and they don't make it new anymore ... so, no, it is not replaceable. There are many cars out there that are not replaceable. All appliances on wheels are replaceable, but not all cars are appliances on wheels

That said, I used to get physical itch to drive the E92 when I was away from home for weeks. Or plan a flight back home so that I arrive home from the airport not later than 3 PM on Fri so I can take it out and drive for 30-45 minutes before Friday rush hour hits the fan. Not anymore, I don't know why. I miss driving it a bit when in Europe for two weeks, but only last 3-4 days. I guess I got old, too

I did a family road trip back from Texas to Kentucky back at the end of December. We used my mom's 2012 Toyota Highlander Limited since it is AWD and had the room and child-placation system (DVD player) needed to keep the shorties happy. It did work very well for our trip.

When I got back, I felt like I wanted to hug my car.

I will admit I do, but I also like driving something different for a few days, even it's not a BMW. Best one I've rented is a Chrysler 300.
