BMW Nav, Keyword Search

1. Having trouble with the Nav search function: Let's say i want to go to Costco- so in the Nav menu I select Point of Interest from the sidebar and type Keyword "Costco" when prompted. It asks: At current location, At destination, or At different location. Neither option will produce a list of Costcos near me. It wants to know an address.. well I don't know? That's why i have the nav feature?? Same problem holds true with voice command,, which seems useless.

2. However when using the Connected drive App I can search for destinations with ease. It will bring up a list of multiple Costcos, I simply choose which one and send the destination to my car. Works beautifully.

Is there a way to bring the car Nav in line with the functionality of the Connected Drive app? Or I am I doing it wrong?? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I think it works for me if I say at a different location and then put in a city and state and then search.

But I agree the phone or Google maps with send to car is much easier to use!

Very odd. What year is your car?

I use the verbal command "Points of Interest Online Search" frequently and it is rock solid. Use it in my home city as well as when traveling.

Mine does that. I've found if you use the findings on the right column it doesn't work but if you click "OK" then it will.

Thanks for the replies, my car is a 2014 328ix - interesting to hear newer models do it too. The car is happy to navigate to an address stored in your phone contacts. But when it comes time to search for a business address, no good. Makes me think there is a patented micro-chip or cellular company lock on location info needed to provide this feature which BMW did not want to buy. Oh well, phone + nav it will be!

Try choosing "At current location" first, then enter the search term. I've never encountered the problem you describe--the geographic search has always been accurate for all four search modes (current location, another location or--when guidance is active--at destination or along route).

Keyword search blows. 90% of the time I find where I want to go on my phone (Google Maps or Connected App) and just send it to the car.

I use this nearly all the time too. Quick and easy.

I've been there--about a week after I got my car. But then I figured out to use the app, so I don't remember what the solution was, if any.

I just think its time for Google to license either Google Maps or Waze to car manufacturers for integrated NAV. Not only are the POIs more accurate, the navigation itself is more accurate...and if they could integrate Waze with its "social media" components such as road hazards, speed traps, etc as part of the connected drive package, it would be even better. As I think about it, with BMW batting for the first place sales trophy, gaining exclusive rights to such a license could be a strong sales incentive.

I don't think Google or Waze are the holdup.
