My iDrive failed recently in my 2011 335is convertible. The Nav system failed to startup and the whole system kept rebooting every 20-30 seconds or so, I could not play the sound system, etc.
The dealer determined (Monday) that the iDrive needed to be replaced. No error codes could be read but they had no other solution. The new part arrived that Wednesday and the car was ready the next day.... confirmed ready on Friday (they did not call to say the car was ready).
Of course, I pick the car up on Saturday and did not notice a few things until Service was closed. The iDrive appeared to be functional so I did not test each area in the drive bay since I just signed multiple documents that talked about all of the testing they did. Well, the Nav system could not be used--it was asking me for a code that I did not have and that no one in sales could provide.
After driving a bit, listening to my iPod (using the doc connector in the console), the audio did not sound right, the tonality seemed off, the balance L/R did not seem right (could be song specific) and at least one song distorts a bit on the piano at moderate volume settings. Also, I noticed that the EQ layout had changed--the frequency layout was left to right and now it's top to bottom (from low to high). So, now I'm thinking that they put the wrong part in. My car came with the Premium Sound and I'm thinking that there must be an iDrive assembly with and without the premium sound. Do you know anything about this? Does the standard sound system have the EQ layout that goes from top to bottom as described above?
Thanks, I look forward to your thoughts on this.
Robert
