Solo ED Trip

I'm planning a ED trip next year. Unfortunately my wife is not into car trips and needs to stay home with our kids anyway. So I may be doing the trip by myself. Just curious if others have done this solo and what kinds of headaches you ran into not having another person there to assist.

I'm at the point where I think it would be more fun to do a solo trip, so I support your idea.

This is why God invented mistresses. Just figure out how to say "This is my niece" in German and you should be all set.

I was solo for my first and only ED earlier this year, just tacked a few days onto a the beginning of a business trip to France and England. I drove about 1100 miles, visited half a dozen car museums and had way too much German food and beer. None of these are things my wife would enjoy so she joined on the other end of the trip for 3 extra days in Paris.

I travel solo for business as much as with groups so it wasn't a big deal to me but no, I can't think of any reason that another person is "needed" to assist you in some way.

First ED in 2009 was with a brother, 12 days & ended in Amsterdam. In 2014 I went myself for the weekend (mainly for the discount). Just stayed in Munich. Redid the museum & factory tour. Saw the Olympic grounds. Got my car delivered and took two laps around the mezzanine. Gave it back to them at the Welt and paid them to drive it to the pick-up point (did not want to navigate myself there). Flew home. WAITED. Flew to Spartanburg for PCD.

Hey a chance to do some things you may not otherwise, like car museum, track, factory tour?

I did my 2010 ED alone. My biggest hassle was convincing my mom that I wasn't going to be kidnapped and sold as a young-ish woman travelling alone. I toured the Loire valley and saw way more castles than most people would probably want to. I enjoyed being able to do my own thing and not having compromise my schedule or wants like I would have with a traveling companion. Even though I speak enough French to get by, after about a week and a half I was yearning to have a real conversation with someone so I started being that weird person that would talk to random strangers at tourist attractions because I heard them speaking English. That being said, I like being alone. The joke in my family is that I was born premature because I needed my own space away from my mom. If you don't like being on your own, a solo vacation might not be for you.

I did one European Delivery solo and one not solo. If you go solo, just study the map a little closer. If the wife and kids are at home, don't forget to buy gifts, do twitter or instagram while on the trip, and don't be away too long.

If the wife doesn't like car trips, why not stay around Munich and Salzburg? Or return the car to Munich after a long weekend, go to another city with the family, like Berlin or Paris, then fly home.

Another way to look at this trip is, you both can enjoy yourselves. Wife can stay at the hotel or go shopping while you do the pick up, and once that is done, head back to the hotel and start your vacation together. See if Gma and Gpa can watch the kids while you guys are gone.

i did this trip solo and had no problems at all.. why would you have any more issues being solo? it was better.. no one to have to worry about accommodating.. do what you want in your new car without having to worry about anyone.

A solo trip would be better if one has esoteric interests that others find boring. Maybe tracking or car museums?
