I like the chrome, was gonna go with some 10 spoke BBS's but I like these a lot. Plus i don't think as many people have these, as opposed to the different BBS's i see out there a lot.
My chrome grilles should be a nice accent with these.
Chrome belongs on American cars. Our cars are supposed to be subtle and understated. Chrome is gaudy, garish and awful. This is the reason that so many people purchase/paint their grills to remove the chrome. But to purposely add it to your car?
Please don't do this to your car.
For the record, I'm not meaninglessly bashing on the OP, my opinion was requested and supplied liberally.
chrome is not tastful with these cars, great style like the others said, buy them if you cant find others, and get them painted. If i got those they'd be black.
Why is it that everyone hates chrome, but goes to such great lengths to polish wheel lips to the same effect as chrome? :dunno: I think chrome looks OK on some wheels...so shoot me. I like those the OP asked our opinion on, chrome and all. A LOT depends on the color of the car that will wear them!
Well polish is completely different than chrome.
1. Its not a plating
2. It doesn't get affected by salt or get corroded
3. Not as shiny which is good
4. Can make sanding lines which is cool
5. Polish can always be painted over easily
6. Easily renewed if its dirty
I could prolly think of others
On our camaro the wheels are polished and they don't corrode nor do they have a clearcoat or anything on them. They've been on there for a good 8yrs and have been drove through ohio winters for 8yrs...
So no not all polished lips corrode. Actually I've never seen one so enlighten me
If you have a true all aluminum wheel then it should no corrode. Theres no way for it to.
Its just like leaving a piece of aluminum outside for x amount of years. It wont corrode unless it is an aluminum alloy.
I was a machinist for 28 years. Much of that work was in was aluminum for the aerospace industry. We had to take all sorts of pains to make sure the aluminum was protected from further corrosion after machining. I say further, because I know that YOU know aluminum forms a microscopic layer of corrosion the second it is exposed to air. That is why it is considered a difficult metal to weld (which I also did for 25 of those years) and an inert gas is required as a barrier to corrosion while it's being welded. I don't have an example of a wheel with a polished lip that corroded, but I have seen plenty of them. I DO have some examples of cast aluminum parts that have corroded just sitting outside in the rain for a week.
Clark, I respect your knowledge of metal. I'm not arguing with you. However, I HAVE seen polished wheel lips that had 'white rust' freckled all over them
For the not polishing my wheels part... everyone has polished wheels and I didn't want just polished on mine and the way the spokes are designed I couldn't really polish the lip.
Yes I did know about the aluminum having a layer of corrosion, but it is not visible to the unmagnified eye. I took a bunch of welding classes including aluminum. I've done my fair share of welding both aluminum and steel/iron. I'm sure you have examples of cast parts that have corrosion, but are they cast out of higher quality aluminum? That does make a pretty significant difference in weather or not they corrode.
I'm just saying that when wheels are polished MOST of the time the aluminum that is used to make wheels is pretty high quality.
Now that we shared with the 'fest our knowledge of metals I'm sure everyone has a basic understanding of aluminum now :lmao:
