I would MOST DEFINITELY replace it!
I am surprised that you did not replace it when you replaced your CCV.
I am on my second CCV, which is failing/ bad, and plan on replacing my dip-stick oil ring.
Why do you think there was a new dip-stick assembly with the CCV service bulletin?
Plus, if you look at Tischer's CCV KIT, it comes with a new dip-stick O-ring.
I reused mine when I swapped the new engine in. I would have liked to replace it but I also wanted to drive my car. There were a lot of things I wanted to replace but budget/time did not allow. The new engine has not used a drop of oil.
I change mine every 12 months for the sake of a couple of cents. Because if it fails, the CCV system wont work properly. And because I'm obsessive compulsive about small things
How do you guys change the seal? My dipstick tube came out by accident when I took the inlet manifold off to remove the swirl flaps. I put a new seal on the tube and could not get it to seat properly in the hole. In the end I managed to get the seal in place and the tube properly located to enable the hole in the top bracket to line up with the screw thread in the manifold but a weep of oil appeared round the pipe when I topped up. I sorted the problem for now with some sealer around the joint between the pipe and the hole and will tackle the problem again when an oil change is due.
I changed mine out last time I took care of the valley pan and CCV. O ring rubber had dried out and was difficult to remove. Simply took an Xacto knife and cut it. For 50 cents (yes I overpaid by 22 cents to get my order to a Free Ship level) it was a simple filler in my order. Recommend those who want to change it just wait for your next order and do the same. Not worth it to order it alone or run to the dealer for it. Funny we started a thread on a 30 cent item.
If you happen to be a regular customer at your local industrial bearing stockist and you know what size of O ring you need (i.e. 19.5 x 3 for M52TU dipstick) they will probably give you a few FOC.
Here's my McGyver trick, but I would have rather had all the o-rings on hand, had this compendium existed at the time:
- How not to replace the dipstick guide tube lower large 0-ring (1)
