What did you pay for Wheel & Tire Insurance?

I was quoted $595 for the term of my 36 month lease. Does this sound like a good price? Also, I was told the $595 includes up to $2,000 of wheel and tire damage over the 36 months. That kind of sucks because I'm hearing of people on these boards who are quite often damaging their rims and tires due to potholes. And with a tire costing like $250 and wheel being $350 and then the possibility of having to have your wheels realigned, that means if two of your wheels hit a pothole and you need your wheels realigned you're looking at like $1,300 for one time. So do it twice in three years and you're out of luck?

I paid $415 for 3 years/36k mile tire/wheel warranty. I got it because of the 18's. After two years, had one claim so far, screw in the tire. Of course, these aren't run-flats so it would have been cheap to fix anyway. i don't know if I will do it again. Maybe, if my next car has run-flats.

$400 for 3 years including wheel/tire, dent ding repair PDR, windshield repair, 24 hour towing roadside assistance

$399 for 5 years/$5000 wheel and tier .. i have the 17" RFTs

Who'd you guys get the insurance with? I'd much rather get it for $399 than $595, obviously.

Can you get tire and wheel insurance for aftermarket wheels?

I paid $595 for 5 years, unlimited claims..

I got mine from my dealer. (They resell some third party insurance policy. I forget the name of the company.) $475 for five years, unlimited claims.

If you guys could give me the names of the dealer you bought the insurance for with unlimited claims I'd really appreciate it.

Just try to cut the price with the dealer that is closest to you. They will always cut the prices on these types of warranties.

You could also do some research by searching the 2 fora to get additional data points. This topic has been fairly well covered. The bottom line is that you will have to pay whatever the market in your area dictates. So for someone in CA to tell someone in NY is not as significant or meaningful (in fact only marginally of interest) as to find out from other people in your area what they are paying. I think that's the way insurance works in general so this isn't that much of an earth shattering point. The only place I ever saw this offered was at the dealership, so I never felt there were a lot of choices. If you thought it was a good idea, then you bought it. I have damaged a wheel that was 2 inches smaller in diameter than my 162s and ended up sending it away to get repaired. The likelihood of an 18" wheel getting damaged is higher so I opted to get it. In West Palm, I believe the 5 year term cost $450.

Wow, lookin at these prices makes me wanna laugh at my friend. I recently helped them find a 325i and they picked it up last fri. They also bought wheel/tire insurnace for $800. Looks like they got ripped off!

My inlaws are in the dealership business...they pay $135 to the insurance companies to buy their contracts (3-4 year contracts), then resell them to their customers, depending on the salesperson, they can get up to $800 dollars for a tire and wheel insurance plan...sigh...I wish people who weren't connected to dealership people could get the same deal, but the insurance companies are more interested in volume of sales of their policies than selling to individuals. I was able to get the insurance for $135, but I only found out about it after spending over $1500 in two years on my wheels and tires b/c of the bad roads here. So to whomever is going to buy the insurance, no matter what the dealer tells you, they don't pay over $200 for their policies...and so negotiate the price of the plan as well as you can, I don't like seeing people getting ripped off b/c the middle man can. For people buying cars and insurance together, it is much easier to negotiate for a more minimal price. It is understandable they want to make some profit, marking up 600% is unnacceptable for anyone.

I paid $0, becuase I didn't buy it -- my salesperson offered it to me but didn't push because he knows I' not going to fall for it. In 7 years of driving 3 different BMWs (323i, 530i, M3) I have never needed it. Would have been a complete waste of money. I think people rarely break even on the tire/wheel plans. Those that tell you they are worth it and to get it are the rare ones that actually do come out ahead.

They are designed to make money for the dealer...er stealer, and the insurance company. Neither care about your tire/wheel health.

we pay a lot for our expensive Beemers and then they give us four tireswheels instead of five AND try to charge us insurance above and beyond normal auto insurance. I was quoted $589 for two years. Rediculous for Turanzas --- or any tire. And I've never damaged a rim. Not even on a race track. I wouldn't pay $200.

I am going to complain to BMW NA, not only about the price but about the concept. Any of you that purchased the insurance are fools. $300 for a terrible tire like the Turanza. Then asking for insurance to keep me from getting upset when the runflat immaturely expires.

BMW is ripping us off and plain and simple. They make EXTRA money off you if the crappy tire is insured or not.

I don't care if you got it for $200. They're playing us for suckers --- and you're letting them. What will they charge us for next and what will they want covered by their insurance next?

If I get a flat with Turanza's (meaning the tire sucks) and they charge me $300 for a new tire it's my last BMW --- and I've had 6.

Complain and they'll get rid of this. Right now BMW is making money hand over fist because their customers don't give a damn. They sell more cars than Mercedes now. I DON'T CARE IF I CAN AFFORD IT --- don't rip me off.

But they're forgetting about greed and karma --- what comes around goes around, especially if we make sure that it does.

I really hope BMW reads this. I didn't know some Beemer drivers were fools and wimps. Moreover, other companies are catching up to BMW offerings.

Hey man, don't you think that's a little harsh? I live in Boston, where potholes fill with snow and you can't see them on a bad weather day/night. I've ruined 3 rims/tires due to that, but I don't think it's BMW's fault. I bought the insurance b/c I've spent too much on tires and rims without it. I guess if you live in an area w/ nice streets and better weather, yeah, the insurance is useless. And I DO agree that insurance prices are rip offs, but in this day and age, all types of insurance, the insurance company and the salesperson always make a profit, but that is more because we live in a capitalistic society. I highly doubt, if you hit a pothole, and it ruins your tire/wheel, this will be your last bmw. Enjoy your ride! BTW: its BIMMER not BEEMER
