Red face New 2006 525i owner

Hi All,
My initial ideea was to get an E90 but shortly after I signed the papers for a E90 330i I realized that I was falling for 5 series so went back to dealership, cancelled the order for E90 and got a 2006 BMW 525i. I will get the car be the end of next week.
What do you guys think about 525? Hope I made a good choice!

good choice

I have been driving BMW's since 1992 - M3's, Z3's, 325's and a 540iT. I can tell you without any hesitation you made a great choice.

You may find it a little under powered......also it depends on how you had it equipped... but you should love it as we all do ours.......

hey guys, i have a new 06 530i. It is one of the smoothest cars ive ever driven. The DTC remains quite active however. It does not allow you to peel or chirp when stepping on the gas in first gear. However, after 2000 RPM you can really feel the torque. I like to keep mine in sports mode, its simply amazing!

Yeah, my only concern at this point is if 215hp will do for this car.
IMO this amount of hp should give a decent acceleration.

I test drove thee 06 525i and 06 530i back to back on 2 separate dealer visits. Driving around the city, the power difference is not really that noticeable. Where I really felt the difference was on the highway, the 530i just felt it had stronger acceleration > 60mph where the 06 525i felt a bit sluggish

I am happy with the pickup on my 05 530i 6spd, I did notice though that when driving on puddled pavements (common in Florida) or rainy conditions and you go over these puddles, the car seems to loose steering control. This was common on front wheel cars I have owned but it seems to be just as bad on my rear wheel drive 530i. Anyone have any explation for this. Why it seems like the car pulls alot torwards the puddles considering how heavy the car is and being rear wheel drive.

I got my 525i 4 days ago and put already 300 miles on it. This car drives fantastic.
The drive is very quiet and always composed. Steering is very responsive.
I am also very pleased with acceleration, it seems that out of 215 hp most of them get to the wheels! Lots of legroom as well!
I am very happy that I made this choice! Pictures will follow soon!

I think this is common with many BMWs (all?.) I had a 1979 318i about 10-15 years ago, and it had the same problem. I also read in the paper, a report on the 530xi, and it said "the car also has a little wiggle from the back, mostly when cornering in wet or slippery conditions, which reminds you that you're driving a BMW." I've also heard from many friends, driving 3s and 5s, old and new, that they often get the similar issue. So, I guess that's a minor, unimportant issue with all BMWs.

My 2001 530i (also has 215 hp) is plenty powerful and has decent acceleration for passing when needed. The best thing about it is the highway fuel economy: 30-32 mpg!! I think it is a wonderful family vacation sedan.

I also have a 2005 545i and the V8's power is so intoxicating...you can't help but launch off the line at every stoplight unless you start the car in 2nd gear! However, it does chew a bit more gas. I bet the new 2006 I6 E60s will be even better than the E39 I6s.... A 2006 530i might be in my future as the gas chomping of the V8 is slightly bothering me...just slightly....
