HELP need location of engine # for E9
I need the location of the engine serial # for my 1973 CSL (E9). I am auctioning the car TOMORROW and need to authenticate the engine. ANY HELP would be appreciated!

calm down. On my 2002, the VIN is on the steering column.
![]() the frame on a plate and this stamp: ![]() On the engine right in the middle of the of the engine bay. HARD to read. it's stamped on the engine itself, no plate... on a 2002 Tii, more on 2002 VINs, and from the original 1969 BMW 1600/2002 Owner's manual, page 6, Figure 2 "Engine No: on the rear lelft-hand side of the crankcase (looking forward)" Hope this helps. I'm sure the 2002FAQ guys could help you out. A lot of them have classic Bimmers. ~Vroomer
