06' E90 Replaced by 07'????

Just got off the phone with dealer trying to plan E.D. I originally just wanted to see when I should order the car in order to get comfort access and he mentioned that the 06 might only be out for about 6 months then the 07 comes out? This doest sound right does it?
Also when can I order comfort access(I know it comes out sept)?

Nope...he apparently does not know what he's talking about. More than likely the 07's will be go into production until Sept. 2006.

It's strange you guys cannot order the comfort access, I could do so here in France... I'm supposed to pick up my car next week and I have no indication that comfort acces would not be in it.
Any reason why you have to wait ?

It's not available for the US market until September even though the rest of the world already has it. I have absolutely no idea why but I'm sure there's a BMW product manager somewhere with an abacus with a good reason.

Just a guess, but it may have to do with FCC approval. The system might have had CE approval earlier than FCC approval, which might have delayed putting it in North-America-bound cars. There may even be a modification that's needed for the FCC-approved version that will only be in production by September.

I'm very disappointed that I can't have my 325i retrofit w/ CA once it becomes available here in the states. I'm set to pick my vehicle up the first week of July.

Your dealer is a moron, and I'm finding difficulty believing that you actually acknowledged such nonsense.

By U.S. law, the earliest that a particular model year of a vehicle can be put out for sale is January 1st of the calender year BEFORE. That means the earliest 2007 models could be put out for sale would be January 1 of 2006, so in the extreme example MY 2006 would be a minimum of 8 months, not 6.

In any event, it is highly unlikely that BMW would shorten two consecutive model years in a row, since MY '05 was just shortened.

I still don't get why in the US a car made and sold in 2005 is a 2006 model?

Who decides? In South Africa, a car is "year modeled" by the date of first registration. So if I buy my car in 2005, and it's registered in 2005...it's a 2005 model.

As it is also the case for just about all of Europe. Welcome to the beautiful democratic capitalistic society known as the U.S.

The guidelines are as I mentioned, set by the U.S. gov't. What the manufacturers decide to do with them (based on market conditions) is their perogative.

I work in the auto industry, we don't use FCC specifications. The electromagnetic compatablity(EMC) standards we use in the auto industry are more server than any FCC requirement.

You can put in your sept. order now in which case you will be one of the first to have
Comfort Access. From what I hear the Sept. orders are mounting so don't wait too long.

Interesting! Thanks for the info. In this case, do you have any guess as to why Comfort Access is delayed in the US while it's available elsewhere?

If you're planning to do ED and getting CA, probably won't be able to pick-up in Munich until 1st or 2nd week of Nov. as they typically build US allocations first then do ED's the following month (Oct. in this case). This also helps in case there's some kind of production delay in the option; even though, the rest of the world has it already.

If you want to do US delivery then order soon for mid to end of Oct. delivery (includes the shipping time.)

Good luck!

ED with CA is available to pick up from the end of September. I ordered and made a deposit for E90 325i w/ ZPP, ZSP, CA and my pick up date in Munich is September 30th.

And what law is this? And I don't see why BMW wouldn't shorten it - it gives them the opportunity to fix bugs and get more people to buy cars - the ones that intelligently choose to skip the first version of anything. It does make good business sense as far as I can see.

The one that has to do with complying with a host of U.S. regulations (including emissions) that a particular model must adhere to in the year that it is actually "stamped" ;;the stamp being the actual date that the car is manufactured. Every year there are changes to all of those rules & regulations, so manufacturers can only push early model years by so much. They can't produce 2007s in 2005, for example.

As far as shortening the model year two years in a row, I've yet to see that happen with any car manufacturer, let alone BMW. 07's might start up in May of '06, but no sooner than that;;;its just highly unlikely.
