Swissvax Opaque serie positive for frozen/Matt colors

Asking Swissvax Norway for a car care line for the BMW Frozen colors, I got a recommendation for the Opaque series. A copy of a test, made by BMW Groupe Automotive Chemicals were enclosed to.

Hope this will be of interest

"Dear all,

Matt finish or satin matt automotive paints (including matt films, wraps by 3M, Avery etc.) are gaining popularity worldwide.
Swissvax had foreseen such an eventual trend already 3 years ago and luckily started with the development of a car care line specially addressed to the needs of matt finish automotive paints.
Our Swissvax Opaque Line. Sooner or later other brands will follow – it is however surprising that we were (or still are) the only manufacturer with a car care line for matt finish pain

A complete list of Opaque products can found at http://www.swissvax.ch/merchant.mvc?...ode=MATT-PAINT

Facts about matt paint finishes

• The surface is not as smooth as on glossy paints. The surface has a micro-structure which is creating a “matt effect”
• Any mechanical polishing “flattens” this micro-structure and leads to the loss of the matt effect
• Polishing of paint defects (scratch removal) is NOT possible up to now
• Matt paint finishes have a surface that scratches easily, too – however, these are “glossy” scratches
• Dirt will stick better to matt finish paint than to glossy paint

Cleaning Tips for matt paint finishes

• Never remove dirt “mechanically” (e.g. bug tar sponges, brushes, automatic car washes with nylon brushes etc.)
• Do not use any abrasive products on these paint finishes (e.g. polishes, paint cleaners)
• Do not use any polishers (neither rotary nor eccentric)
• Hand wash only (or a very modern automatic car wash center with textile cleaning)
• Use only microfiber towels
• Never use any standard car care product on matt finish paints

The Swissvax Opaque products for matt finish paints had successfully been tested by various premium car manufacturers such as Rolls-Royce Motorcars (specially for their “liquid metal “ finish on the Ghost), Bentley Motors, Automobiles Bugatti, Automobili Lamborghini, BMW as well as Ferrari Spa. Unfortunately, we never received any test reports or the information was classified as “secret”. Thanks to Swissvax Germany we are able to forward you an email report from BMW Group (their “M GmbH” (exactly, BMW’s creator of M3, M5, M6 etc.)).

Frost grey is a popular matt paint finish for BMWs. In America, customers who order their car in frost grey must sign a waiver (before they can take delivery of their car) that they will not claim any paint defects from BMW. This shows

• how insecure manufacturers are about the quality and durability of these paints
• that they do not have any suitable products to maintain and protect the finish
• they do not know how to treat matt finish paints and solve the problems associated with them

One day, you might get in contact with or may be contacted by BMW dealers or representatives of your country – then this short (but very positive) test report will be of good use to you! As it is written in German, we translated the text for you (original message see below the English text):

“We did 2 different test: A 1st one in the BMW laboratory and a 2nd one on our long term test car of M GmbH. We terminated the tests last November and have come to the following conclusions:

The products were used according your instructions.

Product: Car Bath Opaque
After a couple of applications no visual change of the matt effect could be noticed.
The cleaning power of the shampoo was rated as normal (standard).
Handling was simple (no problems)

Product: Pre-Cleaner Opaque
The product effectively removes fingerprints and various other dirt from matt paint finishes.
A change of the matt effect after multiple cleanings on the same spot could not be detected.
Handling was simple (no problems)

Product: Quick Finish Opaque
The product effectively removes various, non stubborn dirt from matt paint finishes.
A change of the matt effect after multiple cleanings on the same spot could not be detected.
Handling was simple (no problems)

Product: Swissvax Opaque wax
The test results for the wax did not show any visual change on the clear coat’s matt effect on matt paint finishes.
No improvement against dry scratches could be noticed.
Positive changes could be noticed regarding the matt paint finish’s (water) beading.
The 3 hour curing period after waxing was rated critical, as the surface should not be touched during that period.

As a résumé I can inform you that the care product series “Swissvax Opaque” for matt finish paints has been rated positively."

Best regards,
Hermann Klaedtke
