HOW TO - Get help With VIN

I have seen on the forum before where someone tells someone else the last 7 digits of their VIN number and someone researches and tells them what options they have. I would like to do this for, but I cannot find the BMW database so I will just post the last 7 digits. Thanks!

Your local dealer can also look this up for you. Mine did it for me when asked. Check with the service department. It only took them a minute, and gave all the option codes for my car. Armed with this, I was able to find on-line somewhere a list of all available option codes, and highlighted the ones listed on the print out for my car, matching them up.

I believe most people call the dealer and ask the service for a "vehicle history report" and this report tells you about any service done at BMW service centers and key information like equipment from the factory on the vehicle.

Not good news, man!!

BMW says that you purchased a Daewoo. It has no options, no warranty, is of little value except as a boat anchor.

Apparently, someone at factory put wrong name tag on car.

I picked up this two-page 5-series 17-character secret-decoder ring some time ago from another thread somewhere on bimmerfest ... and modified it to one page and no offset items so that it would be easier for you to use ...

I found the easiest way to find your original configuration is to look at the list that came with the car.

1. Open rear door
2. Lift seat
3. Read list
4. Put back seat
5. Close rear door

Those are all excellent VIN decode resources. Unfortunately, for anything vehicle-specific such as options and equipment, the dealer will have to run the VIN since it's not possible to have such detailed information encoded.

Can`t find the rear door,the rear seat,or the list. Any idea where it`s located in a Z3?

I just called BMWNA for something else, and the guy emailed me a complete options list for the car.

I wonder if you can help me about the vin number and specially the codes of original settings.

Question: When entering the last 7 digits of my VIN#, it says (in part) E39 Lim 540i but none of the "decoder" info refers to what Lim means. I see references to Lim or Saloon above after Body Type, but what does Lim stand for? (Yes, I did a search.) :)
