Car hit the port in NYC - how long?

My car hit the port in NYC 6/26 8:00

I realize it has to go to the prep center and than be shipped to my dealer (Richmond, VA)

Is it safe to assume it will be ready for pickup for 7/9/05?

My dealer said they are shipping cars quicker that are marked "SOLD" as mine is marked "SOLD".

Any thoughts/experience is appreciated.

My dealer said the same thing - about the expedited process for sold cars. Mine arrived in port 6/25 0700 hours - that was the time it gave me for "DISPATCHED", so I'm assuming it's off in the VPC. I've read on here that rule of thumb is 1-2 weeks, but from what I've been reading as far as customer experiences lately...it's been as little as a few days. Here's to hoping...

Yeah I'm hoping but at the same time I need a flight down to Richmond VA from NJ, so I'm trying to book in advance so I'm not paying $350+ for a flight. Right now it's $177, last week it was $132 so I want to make a move.

I call the dealer but they seem to be clueless.

If anyone is interested in why in the world I got a car from VA when I live in NJ is because I work for a corporate automotive company and got the car for INVOICE, because my company owns that dealer. VA is our closest dealer that we own.

So I'm thinking 7/9/05 is a safe bet? Again anyone with experience on this please shed some light....

hit NY on June 21st and arrived at my dealer this morning in Oklahoma. Will be picking up this evening. Can not focus at work today....

My 330i took three days from the boat's arrival to arrive at my dealer in Baltmore, MD. My sister's 330i arrived at 7:00 on 6/25 on the Morning Sapphire. I believe generally it is 3-5 days for Priority 1 (sold cars) unless there is a back up at VPC.

Why did your car arrive at the NY/NJ VPC if you live in VA? I would think Baltimore, MD would have been the appropriate port.

No clue as to why it went to NY/NJ. I believe that is the main port that the dealership works with, as when I was ordering the car I remember asking him if he can just keep it here in NY/NJ so I can get it rather than going down to VA to get it.

There was never a mention of Baltimore, MD

I believe all BMW's come into NJ for the east coast. Isn't that where the VPC is? I live right next to Baltimore and my car came into NJ/NY.

My ship (Trinidad) is due into Newark on Friday and my dealer is in Edison NJ, so it will be interesting to see when mine is available for collection.

Well I spoke to my dealer and he said it SHOULD be there by 7/9 which is when I planned to fly out there to get it.

At dealer by 7/9 seems reasonable based on the responses I've been seeing.

The car is priority 1 as it is marked SOLD therefore I should be in good shape.

I am going to go ahead and book the flight before the prices go any higher.

That's my boat as well. Dealer is just outside of Albany, NY. I'm hoping for a call VERY soon. I'd bug my dealer but I think at this point he'll know when it gets there, but nothing else.

I'm from Richmond (temporarily displaced in Hillsdale, NJ). Which dealer in VA? I'd offer to drive you down over the weekend (7 hours with 'normal' traffic) but this coming holiday weekend is going to be worse than usual. Every friggin' moron in the state will be heading out of the city by 3:00 and the Turnpike/I-95 will be a parking lot (worse than the Garden State Parkinglot if that's possible) from I-80 all the way past DC. Been there, done that last year - took me 12 hours to get from here back home to the West End.

Can't you find a convenient reason to travel down there on business rather than pay out of your pocket?

Nope I do computer support for corporate I have no business to take care of at any of our dealerships.

I called the 800 status # and it says the car is at the port awaiting a shipping vessel, is that a truck to the VPC or to the dealer?

Anyone have any idea? I was pretty sure the VPC was at the port in NY/NJ, so I'm HOPING it is the truck to the dealer....

I just got the same exact message, my car was unloaded the morning of 6/25. I spoke to a CSR on that line and he said that once it's off the ship they really don't know - kind of confusing since doesn't their website track even once it gets to the dealer? I would assume it's awaiting a truck to be loaded onto...which, since the phone sys is a few days behind, would mean it could be on its way today or tmw!

Was your car on the Mignon? My car arrived in port on that date also. I'm hoping it will be at the dealer by next week.

Update for you:

My E90 arrived @ the port on 6/19. It was turned over to BMW's Vehicle delivery center on 6/22. I called today to see where it was and was told that they are still doing several software updates to the car. Apparently lots of things have been changed around in that department since production began.

I am supposed to get confirmation tomorrow if the car has been loaded onto a truck for delivery to my dealer. Will keep you posted.....

Sister's 330i arrived in port on 6/25 on the Morning Sapphire. Was released this morning (6/22) to the carrier and has arrived at my dealer in MD today (6/28). Odd that both our vehicles have been only three days from the ships arrival to arrival at my dealer!
