left side of dash lights out/dim.. Need Help.

Nearly the entire left side of the instrument panel is dim on my '97 328i. This includes the headlight switch LEDs (I assume they are LEDs). SO basically the problem starts at the headlight switch, where the lights are completely out. Half of the dash is dimmed, meaning that the indicator lights are dark on the left of the dash (fuel meter.. etc) then slowly gain brightness across the speedometer.

I hope I haven't confused anyone, I just like to be thorough.

PS - Has anyone changed all of the amber indicator lights on the interior of their e36 to some other color?..... just curious.
