A/C fan
My a/c fan just stopped working on me today. The Compressor is still working. Could this have anything to do with having a dirty microfilter?
Thanks, Bill 1999 E36 M3 Convertible |

It your display unit that doesn't work. Its a common problem with most E36. |

Did you check the fuse? If there's power, then check your plug which are located at the bottom of the Aux Fan.

Yes I checked the fuses. I have no idea where the auxillery fan plug is.

If you looked under your AUX Fan, you will see a connector. You Aux fan is located in front of your radiator. Take out the connector and try to power up the Aux fan. Run hot wire to the connector and see if it turn. If not, then your Aux fan is shot.

I'm confused as to why I need to do anything with the Aux fan. The heater blower fan is behind the firewall.

Oh I thought you say your aux fan, which comes on when you turn on your A/C doesn't work.
So what you're saying is that there's NO AIR blowing inside your car, when you turn on the A/C? |

I am also having the same issue on my '99 328is. Have to check the fuse yet, but it just happened last night. I can hit all the buttons and they all work fine. I know it's not the actual control unit because I got that problem fixed already. It was a capacitor on the board that needed a bit of re-soldering. Hasn't happened since.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know. I'd like to fix this myself if possible. Dealer has limited hours and I can't get it into them very easily. Not to mention it's usually very expensive. |

Sounds like it MAY be the resistor package gone south or a Final Stage resistor. Parts could run 50-100 bucks. If you do a search the DIY is not too difficult. Good Luck..

P.S. this has nothing to do with a dirty microfilter. |
