Jon... I was searching around, trying to get more info on Bimmerfest in Ct, that I heard, was go open on 9/17.

But then I read this post from you, dated 7/9:

"There will not be a Bimmerfest in CT this year."

Can you please clarify? Is there, or is there NOT to be a Bimmerfest in Ct on 9/17? If so, please advise where I can get more info about it.

thanks.

Hi Paul,

The thread in E46 Fanatics tells the whole story. The event in question is
called 'Bavarianfest' not Bimmerfest, and is a ripoff -- not the genuine
article. Look at their site. Look at what they're charging$$. Ask me about
the complaints I've received about their event coming from people who
assumed that I had something to do with that clusterfu*ck. There's
a reason why it's not called Bimmerfest...

Jon.. please clarify a little more.. Which is the show where ICS is making their presence? Are these two shows now in competition with one another? What is the difference in costs? And why on earth is this going on.. it sounds more disorganized than New Orleans. Im not trying to be a wiseguy, but imagine, i started searching to get information, because I ve been asked to participate in a tent.. Yet, the more I search, the more confused I get.

Would someone tell me what the difference between Bimmerfest and Bavarianfest is? Ive been told everything from, its nothing more than a name change, to, one of them is a ripoff.. ie, in this statement, "The event in question is called 'Bavarianfest' not Bimmerfest, and is a ripoff ", I cant even tell which is the real article, and which is the ripoff..

Help"?

If it's not posted here by me or one of my partners (tim330i or PixA4), then
it is a ripoff. Yes, the "knock-off Bimmerfests" are notorious for their lack
of organization. As said before, I've had disgruntled attendees, bill collectors,
...etc. come after me for their past malfeasance over the years...
Again, if it is not posted here at Bimmerfest.com, then it is not Bimmerfest.

Ok.. so , since you posted on 7/9 that there will be no bimmerfest in ct this year, that must mean that what is being held later this month is NOT YOU.. ie, bavarianfest... How on earth did your name, bimmerfest, get thrown into the frey.. I mean, clearly Bimmerfest is NOT Bavarianfest.. mY friend told me it was the same.. that you just changed your name to Bavarianfest... How on earth did That get started. Is some interloper trying to trade on your good name, and then jack up their fees sky high to do so? This sounds very not kosher, and very unfortunate for the community.

If they tried to trade on an existing and established name, that to me is a real sleazy way of getting yourself known. Ok, Fine.. I want to produce a car tomorrow.. I think Ill call it BMW. Cmon, guys... What kind of BS is going on here. A company spends hard earned money, and effort, to establish a name for their shows.. And someone else comes along, and tries a cheap underhanded trick of ripping them off by stealing their name? How can we let this go on.. Why are we even supporting an organization that does this?

Paul,

Back in 2000 (when Bimmerfest was new) I was asked by some folks on the East Coast
if they could use the name "Bimmerfest" for an event that they wanted to throw.
Here's how they put it in their own words:

Quote:
Bimmerfest was the brainchild of Jon Shafer at Cutter Motors of Santa Barbara, CA. It was a gathering of BMW enthusiasts to celebrate our shared love of the Ultimate Driving Machine. The first event was held at Cutter Motors in the Spring of 2000. Jon Shafer continues to hold Bimmerfest West at Cutter Motors. BMW enthusiasts not being relegated to only the West coast, a few people here on the East decided to have our own version of Bimmerfest. After receiving Jon's blessing in using his coined phrase, we set upon getting the East Coast Bimmerfest in motion.
Summer 2000 - In its inaugural year, the East Coast Bimmerfest gathered over 100 cars and as many people in a small parking lot in Rutgers University. Overall, it was a huge success for something that was merely supposed to be small meet.

Summer 2001 - East Coast Bimmerfest is renamed Bimmerfest East. Nearly 200 cars showed with double that amount in spectators. A full show was implemented with three categories along with a Best of Show trophy. Vendors set up booths to show off their wares and interact with many of their existing customers. Attendees weathered torrential rains throughout the afternoon to show the true grit of the BMW enthusiast. Even with the imperfect weather, the word on the street was that Bimmerfest East 2001 was a huge success.

For 2002, many changes have taken place in order to continue our quest in becoming the PREMIERE event for BMW enthusiasts on the East coast. More categories have been added to the show. More prizes are being awarded. More media coverage is slotted for this year. However, one thing has not changed and never will - BimmerFest East is for BMW enthusiasts and by enthusiasts.

Once it became clear that the standards that we established for Bimmerfest were not being upheld
we asked that they cease from calling their event Bimmerfest. It took several years, but now
(thankfully), they have complied with our requests...
