What happens when you return junk mail to sender?

A couple of months ago my wife wrote "return to sender" on all her junk mail and send it back. Now she gets NO MAIL at all at home, and all my letters comes with a big question mark on it, like the post master didn't know what the hell to do with my mail...

We've got a few bills under her name (Electricity and gas) as well as all her credit card bills, which normally shows up at the end of the month aren't coming as well...Did the post master at our local post office remove her name from their database when mail are marked as "return to sender?"

HACK have you ever seen "Good Fellas" ?
Take the postman, muscle him into your pizza parlor with 2 of your right hand goons. Stick his head in the pizza oven and turn it on. While your doing that, explain to him, you never want to see another piece of junk mail again, but if any of my bills ever come late, youll be mixed in with the pepperoni and linguisa.

Let me know how it works ok.

Alternate approach

I think you're gonna have to have a heart to heart with your local post office to fix things.

Next time, open the junk mail, take out the postage paid return envelope, put everything in to said envelope, and pop that in the mail. While it won't stop the junk mail from coming, at least you get back at them by making them have to deal with it again.

Annoying... yes! But illegal?

Oh yeah. If you're gonna do it, just don't put the original envelope in the return envelope or put your return address on it... don't want them to know is sending them back their own junk.

USPS probably misunderstood your action as "these people no longer live there" You just put the beaurocracy into motion and there is no bigger one than the one in this country. Good luck "unwinding" this! I like someone's idea of reusing the envelope. I must try it.

How would that be illegal? If nothing else, I forgot to put the completed application for credit in the return envelope - silly me!

What you might have done to avoid the complication of the postal service failing to deliver your wife's mail was to write on the envelope "REFUSED, please return to sender." That has worked for me, but I only do this on occasion. Oh, and I usually initial where I write the "Refused" phrase so that the postman knows that I am actively reviewing my mail. Hope this helps!
