If you have the DSP sound system, I would highly recommend the M-Audio subs upgrade. This requires removal of the bandpass box mounted below the rear deck, and installation of two factory oem 10" subs. Not hard, but takes some time to complete, as installation of the subs requires removal of the rear seat, seat back, and both c-pillars, along with the rear deck top cover. I think it took me around 3 to 3.5 hours start to finish. All the steps for removal and installation are on www.bmwtips.com

The nice part of this, is you are using factory oem parts, maintains a stock appearance, and takes up little trunk space.

Something like the OPs device is great if you are leasing or otherwise don't want to make any cuts in the car, but a better idea is to go to your local car stereo shop (preferably one that services better cars) and have a customer box installed with an amp. You can probably have such a beast for $500-$600 and it will outperform any premade device. For a bit more they could mount it in a custom enclosure over the battery - a pretty cool location.

I would also recommend either having the 10" sub hole punch outs actually punched out or cut out a piece over the rear armrest. Our cars are built like tanks and the low-frequencies need a better way of getting into the cabin other than through sheetmetal and foam rubber.

The M-Audio subs will run you just under $400 delivered from Pacific BMW, AND the holes are already cut in the sheetmetal.....just remove old, install new, and "good to go". Just a little time consuming.
