Technical question

I am a new 1997 BMW AT sedan owner. I would like to change out the shifter knob to the L-version. How do you remove the knob, is there access somewhere?

For the last good part of a long time BMW shift knobs are just held on by friction, they just push on and pop off. I first found this out when an innocent, but albeit quick, shift from first to second sent my shift knob into the back seat. After another OEM, I went to a sparco item. Since you have an AT... I don't think this will be a problem. Just pull hard.
