Talking Got My M3 via PCD

So, I picked up my M3 at the Performance Center on Friday. It was a class experience from start to finish. Alas, rain shortened the day somewhat, but in making the whole track a virtual skid pad, it actually enhanced the experience.

Jim, the driving instructor, said that BMW would be doing some significant promotion of PCD next year. They really want to push it.

If you can manage to set aside the time, it is definitely the way to go. Aside from fun on the track and an impressive plant tour, the delivery session was thorough and enjoyable. Unlike dealer deliveries, there is no feeling of being rushed through the proces, the delivery specialist is more knowledgeable about the product than the typical salesman, and (last but not least) they send you off with a full tank of gas!

I've written up the experience in my blog. It is in two parts. The second part includes some photos of the track as well as my M3. Direct links are here:
Day One
Day Two

By the way, Patrick, they switched delivery specialists on me. Frederick was tied up with a 6-Series event, so Jonathan was my guy. I mentioned the placard in the window channel episode. He laughed and said that Frederick took a lot of sh(t for that around the office.

I'm in Boone, NC at the moment. I'll have more photos upon my return home. By that time, I'll have just about finished with the break-in. The limits haven't gotten on my nerves too much yet, although the rev limit is a bigger pain than the speed limit. But that will be behind me soon enough!

LOL! As well he should!

Enjoyed your write-up, and your IR/IR looks great! Enjoy the rest of your trip home!

Thanks, Patrick -- and thanks for your kind comments on my blog. I'm back home now, after a stop in Augusta. The M3 was great the whole way home. I now have 1175 miles on it. So, it's time to dump the break-in oil and get a sump full of Castrol 10w-60, after which I can finally see the red-line.

Another break-in requirement is that I have to keep it below 137 mph for the first 3100 miles. I think I might be able to comply with that one.

One thing I noticed on the trip home was that the speedometer reads about 5 mph high (versus my GPS receiver's reading). Anybody else notice this? (I'll do a search of the forums and post a new thread if I don't find anything.)

Many similar reports. I believe that German regulations stipulate that the speedo must be accurate to within PLUS several percent and MINUS zero percent, which is almost a guarantee of a slightly high inaccurate reading. Several folks have noted that the odometers are accurate, though.

This also results in many posts saying "my car does not seem to have the speed limiter, since I went 165" or whatever.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I found that thread with the speedo flames, including the post by the guy who did a screen capture of his GPS while doing 170 mph on I-90. (I wonder if he had a co-pilot.)
