Love my new 5 Series -- 2 issues
just bought a new 05 545i... i love it!
anyway, pics to follow but for now, 2 issues are making me nuts: 1) i have a blackberyy 7390 and it uses the bluetooth system well (i can make calls, receive calls, etc) through t-mobile. the problem is that every time i am already on a call and someone else calls me, it immediately drops the call i'm on and picks up the new call unannounced. it appears to flash the "accept/reject" screen for .5 seconds or something silly... any thoughts? 2) i was sure hoping that the car could read a cd i burn on my computer of MP3's. i have tried making an mp3 cd through itunes and it doesn't work. any thoughts here would be appreciated too. particularly a step-by-step to making an mp3 cd that'll actually work in the car! Thanks so very much for your help! other than that, it's the best darn car i've ever had! |

I wish I could help you with number 1, it may have something to do with what software version your car is running. Depending on how new the car is, I would take it to the dealer and request a software update.
Regarding number 2, the answer depends on if you have NAV. If you have NAV, you can't play MP3's until a September software update for the car is released. If you don't have NAV, then you should be able to play a CD of MP3's. I believe all you have to do is create a data CD consisting of the MP3 files, it should be that easy. Hope this helps! |

I am writing from Australia, so the car configurations are slightly different to the US and Europe, but I have Nav and can play MP3 files. I can only play MP3's via the Nav DVD drive, not the 6 stacker in the glove box. The DVD drive will play either DVDs or CDs that were created in data format. You may as well use CDs, because iDrive only seems to read about a quarter of what's on the DVD directory - it can't "see" the rest.

Do you have business NAV? The business NAV system will play MP3's, but the Pro NAV system won't. In the USA, we only have the pro NAV.

ok, so it sounds like i'm basically stuck using audio cd's... what a total bummer. an mp3 cd holds roughly 6-8x as many songs...i was thinkin' i'd bring my entire miles davis collection everywhere i go!
as far as the phone, this is really becoming disruptive... i'm tempted to disable call waiting on my phone |

Don't forget though, a software update is scheduled for September that will allow Pro NAV cars to play MP3 CD's. That same software update will probably help with your bluetooth issue!

In Australia the 530 comes standard with Nav - it is the one without the map displayed, which I assume is the business Nav.
Hopefully the s/w upgrade in Sep will solve the problem of only seeing part of the directory on the DVD as well. |
