Pics of X5 with Horse Trailer
We took delivery of our new Featherlite two horse trailer last Wednesday.
Thanks to X5 World, I had a clue about brake controllers, and I got the BMW Dealership to install it. The Technician was great. We discussed the installation before, and after. He took well over the 2.5 hours quoted to me, but that was all that was charged Our Featherlite dealer set up the receiver. Its a huge receiver with torsion bars as a backup. Most people don't use them for this application, but some wise old horse people advised to use them. The stock BMW hitch and wiring is so neat and efficient. Love it, and so does the trailer dealer. The trailer is about 3500lbs empty. Add a horse at 1200 lbs, and I'm still under my load limit. Add anpther horse, and I'm full. Most of the time I'll be just hauling one horse, which suits me fine. The gas mileage is stinky with this trailer hanging on! I'm still getting used to the Brake Controller, it has to be reset every time you recomnnect the trailer. I bought the Tekonsha Prodigy, their top of the line product. That's what was recommended at X5 world, and it was only 175cdn. On a 17000cdn investment, that isn't much! On bmw.com, I see that the new X5 will have Trailer Stability Control, how cool is that! I would say now that our Sport Activity Vehicle is fulfilling its duty...that's why we bought it! Here are some pictures. |

Do you have any instructions on installing the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller? Is it tough?
Edit: Never mind I found it. Last edited by LeMansX5; 09-11-2005 at 07:09 PM. |

LOL, glad you found it! My instructions were the following: ask Service Manager to find technician with most experience installing Controllers and then get them to do it!! It's a great unit, I'm happy I got it! |
