One thing to watch out for is the fact that the gas is under pressure. I keep a rag handy for when I am loosening the first line. For some reason, I did not have a spillage from pressurized gas this time. Be prepared with a pan for gas coming out of the filter when you take it out. I also ran my car nearly out of gas before starting, so that there would be less pressure from gravity pushing fuel through the line. It takes about an hour and a half if you take your sweet time. I do not think that replacement of the filter is part of the standard BMW Inspection I or II service, therefore it is likely worth the piece of mind to do it if your car has more than 90K miles. My car has 102K miles, and before I bought it, the former owners took it to the stealer for everything. The filter I took out was the original one, per the date on it. Incidentally, it was a Kayser. I replaced it with a Mahle, which I got from Zygmunt Motors for about $18. Again, well worth the piece of mind, IMO. |
