Transmission Slipping
This is my first beamer. Looking to get a good deal on a later model- just waiting for my price and something to jump out at me.. Any hoo, the car is slow going into gear and like any other car your first instinct is to add fluid -BUT- I cant find where or how to administer transmission fluid- It is a 1994 with more miles than I can count. I want to save it for my son for next year so I'm trying to save money before I have to go to the dreaded overpriced dealership. I am a Do- it - Yourselfer but I have not received any help from mechanics because they want the money.. Can any one shed some light on this please

Do a search on transmission slip... and see how to check the level of your fluid properly. As you know, there is no dip stick on you car.

Are you sure it's slipping. If so, I think the tranny should store a code for each gear this happens.
If you don't have a code, maybe you just need to change the fluid, filter and as my expereience has shown.. MAYBE YOU SHOULD CLEAN YOUR GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH BELOW THE SHIFTER LEVER! Good luck. |

Prior to checking the fluid level, run through all the gears and pause for 5 seconds at a time, remove the side bolt in the back pan, and if a little fluid run out you are okay. Add fluid if nothing come out... drive it around the block... and recheck. If fluid runs out it was too full. Note: If it's too full the tranny may behaive funny and the gas mileage will be less. Too little fluid and the clutches will burn.
