M6 in Redondo Beach, CA 20 OCT 2005
I know you all know what it looks like, but I did spot this silver-blue M6 with DIST plates and no M6 badge cruising casually through Redondo Beach. The new rims and side grilles were clear give-aways. I only caught the back with my cell phone (see attachments) to prove I wasn't nuts. Quality of phone is low ...
... but it's clearly not a 645. Didn't even think to look for a composite roof until it was too late.

That looks like an M6 and as you can tell from the rear bumper that it's a european one because the usa license plates don't fit and a european plate would. Looks nice.

My guess is a 645 with a new apron/pipe treatment. However you said side fender light/grill as well, so maybe.

Yeah, Thats not an M6 there Captain. The roof is totally carbon fiber and as you can see in your pic that roof has silver in the back.

The 06 650ci has small side grills as well. What he saw was NOT an M6, the biggest giveaway is the fact that the roof shot does not show carbon fiber. Sorry buddy, good try but that was not an M6.

Let's be Sherlocks for a moment. No badge. Manufacturer's plates. Some M6 features. Can't really see it well, but back of roofline looks like it's not carbon fiber.
I don't think we can rule out the fact that the manufacturer (the plates, remember?) may have disguised a real M6. If so, BMW fooled everybody except j_a_rankin. In my opinion the jury is still out. With those plates I am tending to M6. |

Sorry, but without the Carbon fiber roof and it's obvious it does not have one even in that pic. That car is not an M6!! Most likely a 650ci.

In other words, if it's not an M6 what is it? Could it be a 650i with quad pipes (mine has only dual pipes)? If so, why would the badge have been removed? There were sightings of 650is, with that badge, in the San Fernando Valley in September before the 650i reached the west coast. These were thought to be distributor cars. Could it be an M6 prototype without the carbon fiber roof? In fact, are we certain BMW is going to import the M6 with a carbon fiber roof? I don't think it's a 650i because that doesn't explain lack of badging or quad pipes. |

Now its possible that it is a 645 that has been given the "M6" treatment............but........and here comes 2 points..........1) don't you think if BMW was testing a M6 in the US that they might consider painting the one "real" telltale part on the car (all the rest of the unique features can be added to a 645)??? 2) AFAIK you can only get a 6 coupe in the US WITH a sunroof.....as far as I can see, that car does not have one.
I believe it to be indeed an M6. |

Have you ever considered that it has aftermarket exhaust with quads?? Why on Earth would they paint the gorgeous Carbon roof body color?? Just to disguise it?? I doubt that seriously. Again, my guess 650ci or 645...

That's why I'm going to get an M6 without a roof. Maybe painting of the roof is a USA option.

O.K. now I feel much better, baby powder is a good thing
Malibu....I bet I'm older than you!! By the way, that black M6 cab spy shot on the ring that's floating around looks really sharp. I had a blk/tan 645 and wouldn't mind getting another one just like it, except I'll take the V10 and SMG (no step on this one Bee!!) |

Can't read license plate. But, I've been told that in some states you (meaning anyone and his brother) can get a dealers certificate which would allow them to apply for dealer plates. Dealer plates don't have the same use fee as regular plates. Its a no no, but in a high use tax state like CA you could save some money on your plate. I think in CA the anual hit is probably north of $1000 on a 6er.
This car has an EU bumper. Most EU BMWs have no badging. I think I read on this board somewhere that a guy in Hungary was trying to sell a 650 on the cheap, maybe this is it.
