Convertible Top Leak and Replacement

I've got a leak at both front corners of the top and I am thinking of replacing the whole top myself. Looks like front header seal will need to be replaced to cure the leak. Does anyone have experience/ advice/ instructions to replace the top and any seals?

Ordered the top from AA Best and expect it in a couple of days.

I've got the same leaks on my '99. Seal looks like its in great shape though. I wonder if all verts have similar leak issues? I will seal it one way or another and keep you posted. Good luck.

Angry Convertible Top Leak

Hello..............I've just registered and this is my first time using the site. Yep....my 1999 E-36 323ci is leaking something awful. Both corners and the entire front part of the top itself. I went and purchased some water-proof spray silicone and lifted the top and sprayed where you see sun light coming thru. Also the threads where the top was sewn was ripping also. The spray is of tar consistency and works well. However, the corners are still a problem. HELP!

I attempted a repair today, heres what I did: I took some clear rubber silicone adhesive and put a small amount in each corner, covered it with saran wrap while still wet and closed the top. I'll test it as soon as it drys and let you know the results. Vikter1, if this fix works, you may want to run a small bead all the way across the top of the window.

Leak Repair Update: Garden hose test this afternoon(sprayed it pretty hard), steady rain tonight...no leaks! The rubber silicone seams to have filled the gaps. Saran wrap pealed right off, didn't stick at all. Hopefully it will hold up over time.

top replacement update

Well, I received my top (looks great, med gray with charcoal tinted window). I'll post pictures after install. Regarding the front seal I also ordered the header seal ($$) and tension straps for the install. Going to local installer (more $$$) to get job done. Independent mechanic told me that the front "hooks" are adjustable if I need to tighten the top to the windshield to seal. Haven't tried this but it may solve leak problem if your front header seal looks good. I am going for total replacement as top and window are kind of shot and I wanted customized vert.

Well guys while my soft top doesn't leak, my hardtop has the imfamous corner leaks at the pillars and top meet. I raised the front of the hardtop and laid down some vaseline in the corners and then reseated the hardtop, so far no leaks, when the weather gets better i'll just remove the hardtop a wipe the vaseline off.
