Automatic Tranny Problem

I am looking at puying a 94' 540i with an automatic tranny. The owner said that his mechanic told him that the tranny may need to be rebuilt in 20-30k. The car has 160k on it and just had the rear-end driveshaft/seals rebuilt.

Any thoughts on whether this is normal? Any idea of the cot to rebuild a 540i tranny.

Everything else checks out and want some opinions before I buy.

Thanks!

may be too late, but it is normal to rebuild the valve body in a 540 tranny... cost could be much lower if you don't wait until it blows... do the valve body kit on it, THEN buy it!

You could have it done for $1k if you are proactive

Can you be more descriptive on what you mean by "doing a valve body." Most tranny places do not want to help with this kind of repair. There business is to rebuild the entire tranny... as if it's a sin to do a bottom-end repair job. Why? Maybe you know????

Go there and search for "540 tranny valve body" or something like that.

You can buy a valve body kit and have it installed. The tranny does not need a full rebuild.
All you have to do is look around for a shop to install it.

Try calling Kirt Koeller at (616)748-5735
He can sell you the rebuild kit and give you all the info you need.
