No. Your pin number is on a label printed on the Bluetooth module.

Open your trunk. Look on the left hand side and you will see a removable panel. Remove it and look down. The pin number is on the label.

Ah. Got it. Thanks, I'll check that and report back.

Unhappy

I've uploaded a picture of the BT module in our X3. The only thing that remotely looks like a PIN is:
PK:XXXX (it is a PIN, so didn't want show it for all the BMW world

I scanned for devices on the Android, it found BMW12345 (can't remember the number) and I put in this new PIN number. However this time, I get a different message, of something along the lines of "Unable to pair this device".

I also tried what another poster suggested (with a non-BMW on an Android forum) and that didn't work.

Any other ideas? I feel like I'm so close. The fact that it picks up the BMW device on the phone is encouraging, I just am not getting the right PIN...

Keep it coming! Thanks!

The PK is your pin. when you pair your phone, and it asks for the pin, input those 4 numbers. If your phone is compatible, it should work.

So far, our phones aren't acting compatible. How do I find out/confirm BT compatibility?

Very helpful Youtube videos

I found some VERY helpful videos that answered most of my questions. This link will show many videos that apply to my questions. I'll try a few of these when I have the car back (it's now my wife's primary vehicle).

Radio = "Business CD"

Some of the videos listed in my above post show a radio with a 'Menu' button. My radio does not have this, and it's labeled as a Business CD. What is Business, and is it possible to obtain the 'menu' on this version?

you may need to unplug the BT module with the car turned OFF, and leave it that way for about ten minutes. then plug it back in, UNPAIR anything paired to the phone, and then..

turn the car on.
turn the phone on and put it in discovery mode
press the phone button on the steering wheel (looks like an old fashioned wired phone, not the face button.)
IIRC- the car needs to find the phone, not the there way around.

that should put it into discovery mode.

Smile Success!

It finally paired up and I did some testing and made calls. Have not tried receiving calls yet. Also, it did NOT download the phone's directory, but it does have a name (manually saved?) that isn't in the phone. So, figuring that out will be next.

FWIW, I didn't do any steps differently than I had tried the last day or so with regard to pairing. I simply did it again and the PK worked. It didn't last time but maybe I mistyped. Also, it took me about 20 times for it to 'locate' the car's bluetooth, but again, I just kept trying and it finally paired.

Downloading the phone directory is next.

UPDATE: This morning while checking the system out again, it synced with her directory completely, so it worked. I also paired it with my phone and it did the same thing. This is all soooo 2005, but it's blowing me away when I've never had something like this in our other cars.

Thanks everyone.

I realize this is a seriously old thread, now twice over, but I have done a ton of internet searching on a very specific issue and haven't found much help. My wife has a 2008 x3 with BT and a Droid Pro on Verizon. When I try to pair her phone, it will find BT, it will even connect, allow you make a single call if you have just turned the phone on in the car, but will immediately give a 'phone.com.android' force close error message and shut everything down. After this it won't let us make any more calls. I think it might have something to do with the phone book, but am unsure.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to correct or subvert this issue so my wife can use hands free in the car?

Thanks!

Avery
