change the lightbulb behind the onbard computer next to the radio? do you do it by taking out the radio?

My light has been coming and going for years. I don't know what the problem is. My mechanic who specializes in German cars wanted like $35 to replace the bulb when it was out and I was too cheap to do that. Since it comes and goes I dont care.
$35 is a bargain compared to whatever damage you might do.
