Question on free oil changes...

When I'm due for a free oil change, is it possible to just get the filter and oil from the dealer (and not have them do the work)? I'd actually prefer to do things myself because I always feel that dealers manage to screw up even the simplest things-- for example they'll probably over-torque the drain plug or the filter cap.

I doubt anyone here has done that...

only your dealer's service department could answer that question.

They will probably want you to at least bring it in to reset your oil service indicator.

I'm sure they will be more than happy to let you perform your own oil change at their service department... or at least they will let you watch when they do it. I asked the service guys at the dealership here if they use a torque wrench for the drain plug and he told me they didn't coz they changed oil on cars so often that they can eyeball them pretty easily... so yeah, they might overtorque it.
