Grill/Window Trim DIY
I will be finishing the trim swap on my E90 (from black to chrome) this weekend and was just curious if there was an interest for a DIY. I can have it finished by Saturday. If there is little to no interest, then Ill save my time....

Please do it. I am very interested as I feel the bright trim is better looking than the matte black. Now if it was high gloss black...
I am contemplating a new 325 and have thought about replacing the black trim. Thanks... |

Yes, please do. If you can, cross post to E90post.com's DIY section ... there is a running list of great how-to posts and your's would be a great addition.

I'm interested. If it's simple enough, I'll go ahead and change mine too.

Everything is pretty easy with the exception of the window sill trim. The front doors do require you to partially remove the door panel and your mirrors. Got the parts today, and Ill be finishing it on Saturday.
DIY to follow... |

Definately!!! I'll be one of the 330 guys that'll swap you 325 guys my chrome trim for your black trim ... once I get my car that is.
I hope by then there's a commercially available black out grill too. I'm not afraid of DIYing it with some sandpaper and paint, I'm more afraid of explaining to the wife what I'm doing and why.

Speaking of chrome trimming, any SF Bay Area Jet Black or Sapphire Black 330i owners who want to trade their chrome grills with black ones, please PM me. I want the chrome look for sure...

You cant give the 325i owners the window sill trim. When you remove it, you have to bend it a little. Thats ok with the plastic trim for the 325. For the metal trim, it will leave some bubbles in the metal whenever you remove it. Therefore, for the 325, someone would have to purchase the metal trim. The upper piece of the window trim and the grills are pretty easy to swap. Its only the door sill trim pieces that are a PITA |

Hmmm...didn't realize the 325 trim was plastic. Thought it was just black painted metal. That kind of changes things.

You can order them from any dealership with the right part numbers... Good source for PN's: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...23&hg=51&fg=20 Go to vehicle trim, then exterior trim/grill. The PN's are there for ya This is not necessarily the prices your dealership will charge, but an estimate just for parts: $378 for chrome window trim $61.60 for the kidney grills Last edited by bavarian19; 10-12-2005 at 05:43 PM. |
