New M5 spotted at IRVINE BMW

Stopped by Irvine BMW to help a friend buy a new Z4 3.0 and this is what I saw...

PhilippeK was nice enough to get the keys to this pre-sold beaut and open up the hood for me:

Also drove another interesting car, but the details of that shall remain off the board...I'll be by next week with the decision maker Philippe!

Irvine BMW is notorious for puttin 10-20K above the MSRP and telling you to take it or leave it. When the M3' hit, the mark-up was 15K above MSRP

Uh, every dealership does that. When I placed the order for my E46 back in April of 2000, South Bay BMW was asking a market adjustment of $35k for the then E39 M5.

I know this is pretty trivial...but isn't that car missing front fog lights?

No fogs on E60 M5--the area is used for air ducting.

They're asking $40K mark-up, which is pretty standard here in Los Angeles/Orang/Sandy Eggo.

Anyone paying that mark-up is dumb enough and want the car bad enough. And from what I understand, all their allocations has been sold at that price. So go figure.

That's a rather odd comment. If you're not going to expound, then why bring it up. It just creates intrigue.

Oh, and I guess you drove a 6.

NO. Up until Bob Crevier's passing, he refused that "standard" mark-up.

From what I've seen and heard, $40,000 is not standard. Long Beach BMW is $15K, Sterling BMW is $25K and I have heard of others at no more than $30K.

I don't know who told you that all of their allocations have been sold at $40K over, but I don't believe that for a minute. I think that is the epitome of "stealer-speak"! It's obviously in their best interest to make you believe $40K is reality, just like when they tell you the M5 is a limited production car!!

Why can't we just order off the internet and buy direct from BMW!! Dealers should be turned into a maintenance and warrenty network. I know I know that will never happen, but most (not all) dealers offer no added value in the sales process. Most of us posters and viewers of internet boards, have far more product knowledge than most salespersons.

$40K over, that is offensive and very shortsighted IMO and I'm a hardcore capitalist! There are hidden costs associated with marking up as they do. In the past 3 years I have purchased an X5, Mini Cooper S, 645, 330 and I will be getting an M6 ASAP. The potential profits from those purchases and many future purchases from a loyal customer such as myself will far outweigh any one time markups on M5's, M6's etc. Irvine BMW will NEVER EVER get my business because of the markup crap they pull. I'll go out of state and get MSRP all day long before I give them my dollars!

I will now step off the soap box!

Massive mark up

New Century allegedly sold an M5 for $35k over in a bidding war between three buyers.
I guess the (winner?) was happy. Thanks for reading.

Was at Crevier on Monday and they have an M5 in the showroom also. $25K markup there.

Is European Delivery Possible?

Can you get an M5 (or M6) via ED? It would be such a simple way to circumvent the scr3wing you get from the dealers, but like most circumventions . . .

Maybe but:
-M cars aren't discounted, and they come out of the dealer's allocation even on ED-- meaning that the dealer would still want to mark it up
-BMW usually doesn't allow EDs on new models for the first 6-8 months of production.

Beastards. There's always a catch. Anybody know where I can get my M6 at MSRP?

Call around, plenty of out of state dealers are selling at MSRP.

Their reluctance is going to be trust.

How can they trust that you'll buy the car at MSRP and keep it instead of flipping it on Ebay.

I know I can get one at MSRP, since I bought two M cars from a tiny dealer in the Midwest, so they know I won't flip it if I get one.

And it certainly needs it with its two piston caliper that aint even monobloque.

Why M insists on giving us crap for brakes is beyond me, especially when its competitions all have your standard Brembos with proper cooling.

And yes, you can make a 3400 pound car stop repeatedly on the track with stock brakes. The Turbo can, the M3 unfortunately cannot.

It's sad when even the RS4 is using the Gen2 ceramic from Porsche. The gen2 here is important because there were lots of issues with the Gen1's.

Lousy brakes and the lack of an LSD have been my issues with BMW since the E36s. How can it be a true performance machine with bad brakes and no LSD?

A Mercedes C230 Sport has much better brakes than just about every BMW! That's ludicrous!

The M5 has an LSD (M Variable Differential Lock, in BMW-speak), and its brakes are nearly 15" at all four corners. My first car didn't have 15" wheels!

And the thing stops from 60 in about 115 feet, about 150 from 70. Sound like supercar numbers to me

Ferrari Enzo 60-0: 110 ft
Porsche GT3 60-0: 119 ft
MB C230 60-0: 130 ft
