calling all 530 xi t drivers

please indicate your average mpg. i am trying to compare notes with other wagon owners. my stop and go cold engine driving is providing me with horrid gas mileage. 13-14 mpg. just want to see if anyone else is experiencing the same. of note is the fact that the curb weight of the xi t exceeds that of a standard 530 i sedan by 387 lbs. about 10%.

Hey, you need to get that Audi A4 off of your "mein auto" listing!

;-)

What area of Portland are you in? Specifically, are you driving up/down hills or in the flatlands?

Hung out in Laurelhurst Park playing basketball quite a bit - there were some serious ballers there.

I grew up mostly in West Linn, though I lived in NW Portland for a while.

just the opposite

Wagonman, bad news. My ED 530xit is about two weeks younger than yours and my driving is completely the opposite; mostly longer trips- even my 4 mile morning commute is all interstate. I drive like the proverbial old lady and live at 8500 ft .

I am amazed at my gas mileage. Close to 30 mpg on long trips (several at 80 mph) and averaging over 26 mpg day to day. All of this is based on the car's "car data" numbers so take it for what it is worth.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, sounds like you are at the nightmare end of "city" driving. Good luck.

that you are getting that good a mileage in the city. either something is seriously wrong with my car (no fault codes, or other evidence of problem), or your numbers are off.

Picked up my car on August 31 and have about 4000 miles on it. I am averaging about 23-26 mpg. I do a nice mix of highway and city driving. Although most of my highway is sitting in Chicago traffic

Adding to what I just said, I have a very good friend that picked one up about 2 weeks before me and he has 2000 miles on his and he said that he is averaging 13-14 mpg. He absolutely hates his car. It has been in for service many times already. Also, FYI from the trade-in estimates he has received, the resale value sucks.

Numbers are spot on. I've calculated it. Last week, I drove to Chicago which was about 90 miles roundtrip. Most of the driving was steady 60-65, but I also crawled along at one point each way for about 3-4 miles at walking speed and got exactly 28mpg. I find it hard to believe that you're only getting little more than half that.

Did you have the recent software upgrade? I've heard that it should also have a positive effect on mpg.

I'll see my Service Manager tomorrow. I'll ask him if he's heard of any mileage issues with these cars.

anyone hate this car? you basically have a 5 series with a more convenient and practical cargo setup, all wheel drive on demand, great looks, very comfortable interior, plenty of power, awesome exterior styling (better than the seden imho)...what sucks? as an su-v alternative--you cant beat it. i dont know how they are selling and that may be affecting resale values.

Crawling in traffic isn't as bad for mileage as you might think. It's mostly idle and very slight throttle. It's not good but it's not bad either. The worst is dense urban streets with plenty of stop signs and traffic signals plus no traffic to keep you from accelerating to mid-point or speed limit and then braking. It's the throttle opening under anything but the slightest acceleration that sucks gas. My 545i gets 22 mpg in California freeway driving with a fair amount of heavy traffic (including 5 miles of crawling).
