Valentine 1 Pronlem

I found out that I have to turn off the Laser on my Valentine 1. Because of the Lasers on my 2018 MY 440i GC I was getting laser warnings in my garage with the car off & plug into an acc outlet. While driving it was going off about every 10 seconds. After sending the unit back to Valentine, I was told there is nothing wrong with the unit. As it is out of the warranty I was willing to pay for them to check the unit, BUT to my surprise they did not charge for the test or the return shipping.

Don't newer V1's have junk detector software? Maybe this only works on X, K and Ka bands. It's an issue with all radar detectors as the sensors run on the same frequencies as police radar and laser guns. There's no easy solution. I have an Escort 9500XI and certainly it's worse in this regard than your V1 although my car doesn't have a safety suite.

What lasers on your 2018 MY 440i GC are you referring to? (I have the 2017 MY).

I had a similar issue with my Escort 9500xi. It worked fine on 2015 328 but when I plug it into car's power outlet (the one between the cup holders) of our new 2018 340 the laser alert would go on and stay on at detector initialization.
I had to go back to my old Escort 8500 which is supposed to have laser detection but works fine with this new car. It is weird since our 340 does not have any of the advanced options with a radar gun involved.

I am thinking about trying one of the latest Escort models. They now have Val1 directional arrows (looks like Val1 patent has expired) and may be smart enough to not issue this false alarm.
On the other hand if 2018 3 series does emit some kind of laser signal then probably any detector is going to get crazy.

I do not have any of these options on my 2018 340 and still get the false laser alert.

Will try to move the detector as someone suggested to see if it helps.

You can turn off the Laser. If you get tagged by the laser it is to late.

I get notified of laser hits on cars ahead of me all the time. The laser can bounce off of cars and the operator can miss the intended victim. It is not 100%, but neither is the radar.

I'm not sure that our cars are using lasers. Mine has radar for the ACC. Has that changed recently?

On both our BMWs there are IR emissions that set off the laser warning on the V1. We have the most current V1. Our solution is to just disable V1 laser warning.

I know the FLIR night vision camera emits IR. But the 330e does not have night vision and that sets off laser warnings too. Maybe it's LEDs or interior motion detector or KAFAS camera?

Not a huge loss because by the time the laser warning goes off, it's usually too late to react. Plus there are a number of car brake lights that set it off too. Too many false alerts to be useful. For serious laser countermeasures, get a jammer like ALP.

Agree about shutting off laser. At least where I travel which is Michigan and Ohio, K and Ka are far more common, probably at least 10:1 over laser.

Volvos set off my V1's laser allllllll the damn time. Solution? Shut off laser and purchase a laser jammer! The jammer with notify you when you're targeted but more importantly it'll also do something about it.

Who makes a good laser jammer? BTW: how do you turn off the laser on the V1?

Does anyone has any experience with Uniden R3? It seems to be universally recognized as the best radar detector now but will it coexist with a 2018 BMW?

My V1 works great. I do not have false positive radar issues around NY/NJ area.

The problem seems to be only with 2018 year cars. Some radar detectors just keep reporting the laser alert. In my case it is a permanent signal when the radar is powered on.

I have a 2018 440ix and do not have the laser going off all the time.

Ha! I put my Escort next to my V1, nuthin' but trouble. Opposite ends of dash, maybe OK.

I've been sporting mine for a month or so. It is extremely sensitive. I did a trip to Miami and it gave more than ample warning of radar hits. I haven't had a laser alert yet, though. It doesn't seem to false alert very much either. I haven't used a radar detector in years prior to this one but have ridden with relatives who are using older detectors and those seem to cry "wolf" a lot. The GPS sensor gives a speed readout and allows geo-tagging but those do not inhibit the alerts. I would have liked arrows but otherwise it is a nice piece of kit and I'm glad I got it.
