Changing Transmission Fluid 2002 530i 5sp

Can anyone tell me how do I replace the transmission fluid of my 2002 530i 5sp. I tried the dealer and they said no its sealed life time fluid. I think there is something wrong with my transmission because it makes a noise like its not getting lubricated correctly. I have 84000 miles.

Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the forum. I encourage you to use the search feature for any question you have before posting, as most likely just about everything has been discussed in the past. There are numerous posts about the pros and cons of changing trans fluid, particularly on a high mileage vehicle that has never had the trans fluid changed before.

If you decide to change your fluid afterall, check out bmwtips.com, click on "Tips & Tricks" to get a long list of useful info on taking care of these cars. For trans fluid information, there is a "Transmission and Tranny Fluid Chart" link with all the information you need to change your fluid. Well, except for maybe this tip - make sure you remove the fill plug before the drain plug, since sometimes they are hard to remove and you don't want to get caught with an empty trans and no way to fill it back up. Oh, and this too - the special Esso ATF LT 71141 for your trans is very expensive at the dealer, but only $13 a liter at jie.com.

with this kind of milage i would not recommend replacing the fluid, instead just go to the dealer and have them diagnose the problem that you are describing. With high-mileage its risky to replace it. I ve read a lot on this.
