Questions about ED
After trying to negotiate with local dealers for local delivery I've been reading up on the ED program and now i'm excited as hell for several reasons.
1. My currently lease on my lexus will expire in 3 months on 3/2/06 so i have time. 2. I've never owned a BMW before 3. I've never been to Germany before 4. Actually I've never been to Europe before I think Euro delivery is for me! My questions are as follows: 1. on BMW website it says for the savings for a 325i can be up to $2160. is that price realistic and is that reduced from teh selling price of the car?? 2. are the depreciation figures now based on MSRP here in the states or the MSRP from Germany? 3. it states that insurance, registration, and shipping is included in the price, are there any hidden fees to be aware of either there or here in the states once your car gets back here? 4. are there charges to deliver the car to your local dealer? any other info or past experience with the program would be very welcomed. Thanks. |

Search the ED forum - many of your questions are answered there. If you have other questions, the ED community will be happy to lend a hand.
One thing to be aware of though - if you have 3 months remaining on your lease, you don't have a lot of time to pull the trigger on ED especially if you are particular about the options and color combos. A good rule of thumb is 1 month from order to scheduling production + 1 a few weeks scheduling to actual production + 1 month from production to delivery for a total of 2.5 to 3 months. Get over to the ED forum - post haste!

1. on BMW website it says for the savings for a 325i can be up to $2160. is that price realistic and is that reduced from teh selling price of the car??
Answer: Yes the difference is real. 2. are the depreciation figures now based on MSRP here in the states or the MSRP from Germany? Answer: The depreciation should be based on US MSRP, but most dealers will base it on ED MSRP. You can fight it out and get them to agree (with great difficulty), like everyone does. 3. it states that insurance, registration, and shipping is included in the price, are there any hidden fees to be aware of either there or here in the states once your car gets back here? Answer: The idea of ED and price difference is that you blow that difference in spending on your trip to Europe and contribute to Europe's economy as a tourist. Cost of a roundtrip airfare to Munich, lodging and boarding typically costs around $1,500.00. Otherwise depending on whether you are leasing or buying, BMW privides temporary registration and insurance for you to drive around Europe for a specific period of time (15 to 30 days). Shipping fees, Europe to US, is included in the price. 4. are there charges to deliver the car to your local dealer? Answer: Nope any other info or past experience with the program would be very welcomed. One of the sticky notes above here has the 2006 pricing details, including confidential wholesale prices. People have been able to negotiate a drive out price, with a dealer mark-up of anything between $500 to $1500 over ED wholesale, + taxes, tag & title of course. Unless you do this it is not worthwhile (price wise) because a dealer will anyway give you a discount on US MSRP and the difference will reduce to a no-benefit point, if you add your travel cost + interest loss (waiting for car after payment). My dealer is charging me $195 maco and $399 doc fees, on top of $995 markup over US wholesale price. Not a great deal, but I hate spending time with car salespersons and can think of better use for my time otherwise. All the best. |

As everyone said post this in the European Delivery forum, but as gesoffen said "hurry." If you lease expires beginning of March and you want to have the BMW available at that time then you need to pick-up the car and drop if off in early Feb. It takes 4-5 weeks to get the car to the East Coast after you drop it off in Europe.
If you can extend your lease a month or 2 then you're in good shape.
