few questions around ED..

Hey all, have been reading posts here for a few months. I'm considering 550i ED for February pick-up but have a few concerns:

1. I was told that my trade in would have to be turned in to the dealer 30 days before my pick-up date in Munich. A bit crazy, no car for 30 days then no car while waiting for arrival of the 550. How did you manage to be without a car for that long? Did your dealer also have this requirement?

2. Is $2000 off ED price a good deal on a 550?

3. is there a accessory shop at the ED center?

That's it. Would appreciate any comments.

Jaro

You have to pay for the car 30 days before as apparently that is when BMW deducts payment from your dealer for the production of your car. I guess you could hold out trading in until you get your car, however you would have to pay them the full price of the car, i.e. they would not give you credit for the tradein.

2. You should go the other way, i.e. how much over invoice as opposed to how much under MSRP. Depending on the car, you can get as low as $600 over invoice.

3. No clue...

1. I have heard people being able to hold on to their trade in until the ED car gets re-delivered. Try to work with your dealer. If not, how about renting a car for a month? Your ED deal commences 14 days prior to pickup in Munich and any financial dealings with the dealer end at that point. I would expect a trade-in deal also will be handled then.

2. Maybe, check the pricing at the Ask a Dealer forum and see how much over invoice that is. Pricing also depends on your local market condition. 2k off in Chicago might be a good deal.

3. No, you have to go to the Niederlassung Dealership which is about 10 minutes from the ED center.

I would be sorely tempted to translate Niederlassung into English as "branch" when I read that the Frankfurter Ring dealership is the main or head one belonging to it:
Quote:

Ja, indeed Niederlassung is branch or branch office but the way BMW uses it, ,,Das werden Sie in der Niederlassung finden" is like saying you will find this at the dealership. So it is being used in an idiomatic sense in a way.

For that matter, the way it is used here on Bfest, ,,go to the Niederlassung on the Frankfurter Ring``, saying ,,Niederlassung Dealership...`` would be odd.

Thanks for the explanation. Some days I can confuse myself in two languages simultaneously and wasn't sure if today wasn't one of those days.

What accessories would you want to buy anyway? Is there something unique at the Munich dealerships not offered here in the US? It was my understanding the accessories are cheaper in the US too, and you don't have to lug them back over when the trip is over.

Yeh - that's what I did - at a dealership in Heidelberg - dropped the other half at the Christmas markets (time for a break after 9 days anyway) and spent a couple of hours annoying the crap out of the SA's at the dealership . Tried to scam a carwash but it was the lunch period and they couldn't find the guy
They were great - they were all over my car. Is it true that the 162's aren't available - or not very common in Europe?
They also commented that they don't see many loaded 330's - cost I guess. There were a few stripped down 3's in there - no cruise, cloth etc (and I'm not trying to start a debate on cloth vs leather vs 'ette - there are plenty of threads that do that well already - just an observation)
They have so many cars - and bikes there - including an M6
I think I'll be looking into a Beemer to go with my Bimmer - wonder if they come in Monaco Blue
And I picked up a nice shirt.

There were some items in the Munich dealership that are not available here. More specifically, I'm still looking for a key ring that Munich sells but nobody in the whole world has.

Wheel locks. They may be covered by insurance but you sure don't want the hassle.

Well, I kept seeing this red E90 in my rearview mirror heading to Italy

But I really only saw a few E90s during my trip other than Rich's (the red one) and the ones in Freimann.

I did see a couple that had BMW AG labled on the doors, so they may have been company or promo cars.

That could be because it is a pretty expensive car in Europe. My dealer showed a 325i on launch day that had a reasonable level of accessories for an American car. People seemed to like it until they saw the price: over $50k. Few could or can devote perhaps $120K+ of gross income to buy a 325i.

Well that is another fun part of ED, when people complement your car.. some of bmw souvenirs (shirts etc) could be picked up at airport too. I bought a key ring.

I think you meant to write "compliment". I get silly ideas after the earlier thread about the ultimate ED souvenir and then seeing "complement". I imagine, for example, you stopping somewhere, spotting a hot local and exclaiming: Wow, she would look good with the car. I wonder if I can take her home?

Silly, silly, silly.
