What's a fair price (US) to tint all those NINE windows!!

Well if you get it done from the dealer... then it wud be expensive... but aftermarket should be around from anywhere in between $120-$200 depending on what kinds u want... whether you want one whole piece for the rear glass... or in sep. pieces... so thats a ballpart since these are similar to the prices here in canada...

Yeah, the stealership wanted to charge from 500 up, that's knd of high, most indy shops around here charge around 25 bucks a window, but they also have sliding scale on vehicle type i.e. nicer car gets higher price, I guarantee a 06 Honda with 9 windows will be cheaper to tint than the Bimmer

Huber Optik

You should read up in the general forum about tint. Not sure if you have navigation or sirius, but these as well as AM radio reception can be ruined by tint installation. Also, what are you looking for with your tint? Are you just looking for visible light transmission reduction, or are you looking to make the car cooler in the summer as well? I too opted not to get the privacy glass on my new X3 maily because it was only a 20% tint on the side rear windows and not even the back windshield. After extensive research on the web and this board, I am having Huber Optik ceramic tint installed. It is a little more expensive, but well worth it. The color is a true grey and it should also help keeping the car cooler in the summer. You cannot have this done by the dealer, it must be done by an authorized shop. check out their website for your local installer.

Arkansas?

just moved to Arkansas. Folks here tint them real dark, limo style. Can't see in all around. pretty wild coming from Pennsylvania where tinting was a no-no.

Huper Optik varies tremendously in price by market. Here in Houston and other markets you are looking at $400-500. In CA people have posted as being able to get it for $300.

One of the outstanding characteristics of HO is the unsurpassed heat rejection. HO30 (34% VLT) has a higher heat rejection than the 99% of the limo tints (5% VLT) on the market.

Most top of the line films come with a lifetime warranty. What kind of film (brand and line) did you get installed?

Out here in Northern Virginia it varies based on what kind of film you get. Anywhere from $ 200 to $ 450.

Actually, I was thinking about getting tint as well.

Tint info for SF Bay Area, CA

Hello...

Some info about my tinting experience here in the San Francisco Bay area, in case it helps anyone...

Every car I've ever had, I had the windows tinted. So I've been thru the tinting experience several times and I've finally found a tint place I really like.

First off, the only aftermarket thing I did on my '05 X3 was tint all the windows (except the windshield, of course). I really did not like BMW's single tint option which to me, was overpriced, too green-ish, and so light it was hardly doing anything.

So thru some research I found a place in Santa Clara called Quality Auto Glass & Tint (408-363-8468) that installs (amongst some other brands) 3M tint. I specifically picked out 3M due to its lifetime guarantee of being color stable (no purple!), non-fading, non-peeling, non-bubble, non-interference with GPS or cell phone, and true colorless black / grey color.

The husband / wife team running the shop were honest, down to earth people. None of the 18-year-old attitude found at many tint shops. I paid around $300 -- not cheap -- but that is the Bay Area for you (and why I bought my car in Munich!). FYI I got the darkest in the back (5%) and the lightest on the front 2 doors (50%).

I'm truly pleased with the tint and the place that installed it. Easily one of the best I've had amongst all my cars.

hope this helps ya'lls...

It would be helpful if you would identify the line of 3M film you had installed. There are 3 lines that they offer.

Huber Optik +1

I have had Huber Optik on my 5-series for 6 years now. It still looks brand new and it is well worth the money. Not quite sure, but I seem to remember paying $400 (in Los Angeles) for all 8 panes of glass (incl sun roof). Rear window is a one-piece job and I opted for different shades for different windows (less dark on front windows, max protection from the sun roof etc etc). I will likely have my newly acquired X3 tinted with Huber Optik soon.
