StreetPilot III install in my car...
Some of you might remember me inquiring about installing a Streetpilot III in my car. (Kaz, Hack) Well I finally was able to it a short time ago. I wanted to write up a DIY with pictures, but unfortunately the camera that had the pictures on it was stolen.
Ill give you the basic details about my install.
I have it powered through the 12v flashlight charger through a cigarette lighter adapter. I also was able to hook the sound up through the cell phone speaker. I was able to splice the wires under the cupholders for the speaker. When I want to use the streetpilot III i take it out of my glovebox. I choose not to install it in plain sight because of the risk it might be stolen. When I use it I put it on my dash or my passenger seat. I keep the non-skid stand under my seat and the main unit in the glovebox. Three wires run from the streetpilot III: sound, power, and external antenna. I installed the external antenna by the windshield. It provides better reception and its takes away the ugly antenna off the street pilot III. I put the 3 wires in a small plastic wire tube that goes directly to the top of the glovebox. It looks very clean this way. I am able to still close the glovebox when the wires come out.
Overall I am very happy with my install. I can hear the sound clearly out of the speaker. I really like the streetpilot III deluxe. It is worth every penny. Sometimes it does get confused but its not a big deal. Anyway if you guys have any questions feel free to ask away.
