iDrive Issues Poll

There seems to be some iDrive gremlins reported by folks.

Although I have had no issues, I m scratching my head trying to correlate some potential culprits.

please take the poll and see if anything proves out.

Although the poll is just starting, I find it interesting of the first 8 folks who did the poll, 2 have iDrive issues, and they both were doing BlueTooth syncs.

We shall see how thing play out when more folks respond.

Damn, I'm unlucky. While the sample is still small, only 16 2/3% have iDrive issues. I thought it would be more than that. And I'm the only 650i owner with iDrive problems?

I have had a few minor hickups, but nothing major yet (it's only been 1 week since redelivery) that I would call a "problem". Takes a bit longer to boot up now and again also minor issues mostly relating to voice command and bluetooth phone glitches. Also noticed some things with Radio station info that didn't seem to update, but no way of knowing if that was a station or i drive issue.

My biggest beef is that the nav DVD is so out of date that it doesn't even know where my house is in Scottsdale or many of the other new streets that they have put in the last several years. Mapquest is free and they already have this info updated. Not a big deal because I know how to get home, but still.

I selected the iDrive issues button but (knock on wood) have only had the one radio frequency preset "issue" so far. Guess is depends on how one defines "issues" ...

I would define iDrive issues as repeatable annoyances or glitches. When I was going through the past threads it seems most folks with issues have blue tooth phones.

I have not got my phone yet. I work for a company that provides me a cell phone, a so far my only choices for blue tooth phones are not currently supported.

Not sure if I should bite the bullet and just switch phones to give it a try.

However, it is not that big of a deal to me to wait since I would rarely use the phone while in my car.

Can the two folks who each checked 645/650 Blue Phone sync and iDrive issues please tell us the phones they are using?

So far, 2 of 17 have iDrive issues and they are both syncing with BT.

I'm syncing with a Treo 650 / Cingular but since (thusfar) I've only had one instance of reversible flakiness with the iDrive I may not qualify as really having iDrive issues (though that's the option I selected in the poll).

RAZR v3 with T-Mobile.

I've got the Cingular Moto V551 Bluetooth phone sync'ed with Bluetooth. By telling you guys this, I hope it doesn't jinx my 650i

I'm not sure if I answered correctly, because so far on my 650i I have had neither bluetooth nor iDrive problems (and yes, I do have a Treo 650 Cingular connected). So I marked "No Bluetooth" meaning that I've had no bluetooth phone sych problems. Just like there are "No iDrive issues" for me.

I'm not sure how someone with bluetooth issues, or someone without a bluetooth phone would respond.

Should have marked Blue Tooth is sync'd, but no iDrive issues. But that is ok.

Those with iDrive problems are using BlueTooth. No one has reported iDrive issues that is not using Bluetooth. However this is a very small sampling.

Those with BlueTooth, and are having iDrive issues, might want to turn off the Bluetooth for a while to see if the iDrive issues go away.

21 have taken the poll, 9% - one 645, and one 650, have BT/iDrive issues.

Can the two folks with the 645/650's that are having issues tell us if they have had the CIP software upgraded, or if the code is the same as the day you got the car. Also, do you know what version may have?

Intriguing conclusions, but I think the sample is too small. Also, people who have "minor" issues with iDrive are not reporting those issues from what I have been reading.

As I have reported elsewhere, my software has been upgraded. My dealer says it's with version 19.2, Cobradave says he thinks it's version 19.02.03. I think Cobradav is more likely to be right than my dealer, since Cobradav has the SIBs.

Agreed. However some of the minor issues were operator error. i.e. radio presets with multiple keys, and unfamiliarity with the menu operations. I tried to make it clear that issues were defined as repeatable issues that need resolved rather than one occurence of strange behavior.

However, I was expecting the issues to be of a higher count. It is good to know the vast majority are not having issues.

Still holding at about 10% with iDrive issues.

Thanks for rubbing it in. (I'm the only 650i with iDrive sisues.) Actually, it's 15.38% right now -- 4/26. And half of the cars with iDrive issues reported are not synced via Bluetooth -- 2/4.

Again, while the sample is too small, I don't see any patterns emerging. Since BMW NA has a very large sample (almost the entire universe of USA cars), I bet it knows whether there is a link or not. But, of course, it's not talking.

The only pattern I see is the 645 has a higher rate of issues. Most likely because the the software was not upgraded to the latest CIP. The 650 appears to be very stable although you have an issue. It is good to know the overall stability has improved with the newer software/cars.

What is even more interesting, is there are over 20,000 6 series in the US. and only a few dozen on this board.
