2004 X5 4.4i engine miss fire problem

My 2004 X5 4.4i started engine miss fire about six months ago, based on the diagnose read out from the dealer, the #5 had miss fired. First time, they replaced ignition wire. Couple of months later, it happened again. Same result. After discussed with factory, they replaced all the components of valuetronic components and head block (long list of parts). now, after 2000 miles, it happened again. THis time, they replaced fuel injector. All three times all have the same symptoms: SES light blink for awhile, then sold. Engine runs very rough while driving, when it was in idel, it drops down near stall. I can tune the car off and wait for few seconds, restart it willl be normal. The history only register #5 miss fire. No further details. Very frustrated.

Any thoughts or suggestion? Anyone has the similar situation?

P.S. I always using 93 octane gas and keey 5000miles oil change and routing maintenance. Currently, it has 40K miles on the car.

Might this have anything to do with the current ignition coil recall campaign? Might be worth a check w/dealer to see if ur VIN is in campaign.

Dealer did replace ignition coil the first time that happened, but it just continue happening. If it happens again, dealer suggested to ship the X5 to factory for futher diagnoses.

Have the same problem...#5 cylinder misfire. The dealer also noticed cylinder #4 had an injector fault. I'm planning to get the injectors replaced. I'll keep you posted on the results. Also, have you noticed an oil burning smell from you engine?
